The Taste of Finals

Nov 12, 2007 13:45

I thought it would be a rather trite day as it is the last week of class, and how right was I?  My first taste of pain is when people made no arrangements with the thesis coordinator, then decided to ask me one million questions on submitting their thesis.  Yes they had a sob story, and I did feel bad, but there is a reason theses are submitted through the coordinator.  On top of that the grad department was not available for the student to confer with either.

Then comes a student who knows she was helped by a certain staff member, and what does she want today?  She wants help from said staff member, and he’s left the damn building.  Why does she come late and expect help from the same person?

Last student of the night comes in, doesn’t know how to use the scanner, wants me to show her how.  Advised her of the times computer help assistant times are, and she’s huffy because this is her last minute project.  I’m sorry; did I make your project last minute?   Did I hold up all the details so you would have to complete this shit at what 12:15 AM.  What dose this dumbass do after whining?  She goes into the copy room and chats it up with friends.  I go to give the 15 min closing warning and she’s having a good time doing anything but her last minute scanning.  Later for that.

Day two is on the horizon.  Grad students with thesis to submit are going to work the nerves.  Students with last minute projects are going to work the nerves.  I have the perfect solution if they don’t like what I say.  I smile politely and look them in the eye and say, “have a good day.”
