Rowena settled back into the chair she had claimed, closing her eyes and sorting through her thoughts. She needed to have everything together when it came time to spill.

She wasn't entierly happy about having to tell these children, but now ignorance would get them killed. Or worse.

With Kenny, there was always an or worse.

But something was tugging at her attention. A little thread come unraveled in the mental air. She opened an eye and tried not the glare at Kristoff. "What?" she said, trying not to snap. "Just spit it out boy. What's bothering you?"

Kristoff had no compunction about glaring at Rowena Xanathos. "I do not have to tell you anything, witch. My personal affairs are my own business."

He did not understand how he could have frozen up like that before. It had never happened. His mother had died years ago, it made no sense for him to become trapped in a memory from years before.

"I'm going to let that slide from you just this once, boy," Rowena said, her voice like poisoned honey. "I am a magus, not a witch. There is a very great difference, partly having to do with how many pieces of your body they find when I'm done." She leaned forward. "And unfortunately for both of us, this does have to do with me. I can teeeell." She drew the last word out with a sing-song voice. "But if you want to play the part of the stoic, I suppose that's your affair. I'll just get it out of you later."

She shifted a little in her seat, eyes sweeping the room as a familiar pain hit her, making her twitch.

Another thing she absolutely hated about being fourteen.

With a little sigh, she slid back out of her seat and sidled up to Kate. She kept her eyes very firmly on the floor, refusing to reveal just how embaressed she was. "Ahem."

Kate thought she'd been doing a pretty good job of pretending she had the power to not be noticed, but the still-unfamiliar sound of young Mrs. Xanathos trying to get her attention sent that idea to extinction. "Yes?"

Rowena kept her eyes very, very firmly on the floor, her hair falling down around her face. She shifted from foot to foot. There were very few things that actually caused her any embaressment... but this was most definatly one of them.

"Do you have any tampons? I'm sort of in need here."

Gods, she hated being young.

Kate bit down the urge to laugh at the surrealness of the question and opened the bottom of her quiver again. That spot seemed to be getting a lot of action tonight, and it appeared preparedness had saved the day yet again. She pulled out a tampon wrapped in innocent-looking white plastic (no You Might Mistake This For A Non-Girly Product Otherwise Pink or Purple for her) and handed it over.

"Hey, your timing could've been a lot worse." Which was true. Kate figured she probably didn't want to talk about it any more than necessary, though.

Kevin quickly stood up, partly to get out of hearing range for the girl-talk, and partly to find a nurse. Tapping the shoulder of the first person in scrubs that he could find, he asked, "Um.. could I go visit Nico, now?"

The nurse glanced at him, and gestured inside the door. "Yes, of course. Please be careful of Molly, she's still recovering."

"Oh. Okay." Kevin turned to give an encouraging smile to the others in the waiting room and entered the sick ward.

"Hmph. I don't really see how the timing could get worse," Rowena grumbled, heading for the bathroom. "Thanks."

Oh, she was so looking forward to menopause. Yes indeed. Goddess, the things she was going to have to put up with all over again!
