Training Day

May 06, 2006 11:45

The Vision was the only one who had been in this room before. Granted, most of the others had been locked in the old Avenger’s training room, but this one was…neater. Cleaner. Not filled with broken stuff ( Read more... )

"As far as we can tell, he's supposedly the son of Captain Marvel and Skrull princess Anelle." Captain America said. "The Super-Skrull came after him first, but then the Kree showed up and the whole thing turned into a huge mess."

Cap paused. "Also, the woman who raised him was killed by the Super-Skrull. We're not sure how well he's dealing with that."

"Anyway, we talked to both sides and they both agreed to back off - for now. But considering how eager both the Kree and the Skrulls were to get their hands on him, I'm not sure how much we can trust that agreement. Again, we can get more people to come along with you. But I think that the kids really need to get out of here - they're going stir-crazy and driving everyone else stir-crazy as well. And these kids did take out Kang, apparently, so who knows what they can do in the face of an attack on one of their own."

Field Trip? Oh, joy...well, at least they wouldn't be out in a crowd. Crowds still made him twitchy. Well, Hawkbird, Hawkeye, whatever he was called certainly just made Kate's day with that bow. And Vision and Cassie remembered him already. And he totally gave Billy and Teddy another someone to fanboy over. Which meant He and Eli were going to have to be the intelligent ones and be suspicious. He glanced over at Eli. Well, he hoped he wouldn't be alone on the intelligent one front. After all, this guy just said he was back from the dead. Which was not normal. At least not for him. Yet.

Billy didn't take long to get his gear. After all, he didn't really have much in the way of gear. But he had enjoyed taking the time to fanboy with Teddy about being able to go outside and train with Hawkeye.

He let the phrase run through his head again, just enjoying the way it sounded to him. Outside with Hawkeye. It was getting to the point where he didn't think he remembered what the sun actually looked like.

Outside training with Hawkeye.

This was just too cool.

Clint nodded to Steve and startedheading for the door.

"I left my glider in an ali out back. I'm going to go put it on the hangar on the roof. You guys meet me up there and we'll go from there."

With that Clint walked towards the back and went down the stiarcase, we felt like being as fast as possible. THe kids would hopefully be waiting for him when he got back up there.

The Vision followed Clint out of the training room.

"[Would you like assistance with your glider?]" he asked perfunctorily before forging on ahead. "[I overheard what you and Captain America were talking about. I just wanted to say that we are not going to let them take Teddy. I do not care what claims they think they have on him, he is staying here.]"

The Vision was careful to keep the anger out of his voice. It wasn't Clint's fault that none of the adults were willing to talk to them about this. But Clint had to know that the Young Avengers were aware of the situation, even if they weren't talking about it. They weren't stupid.

Clint paused in midstep and walked over to the Vision. He put his hand on Visions shoulder. He already had the feeling that this wasn't his Vision but he reminded him too much of the old one.

"I'd like that bud. We just need to get to the roof."

He carefully lowered his voice and continued to speak.

"After the things I've heard you guys pull off, I'm sure you've been able to take care of yourselves. You just need some more focus, and I doubt that Steve can give it to you. I'll help you all that I can. Now lets go grab the glider and discuss just how much of the old Vision is in you, alright?"

The Vision almost visibly relaxed. "[Thank you. I just did not want you thinking that we were being stupid. We are aware of the dangers out there, and we have made our choice. I just wish that more people felt that our choice could be trusted.]"

The Vision trailed after Clint. "[In answer to your other question, I am less of a reincarnation of the previous Vision and more along the lines of his "son".]" he shrugged. "[I have the same physical and emotional capabilities, and access to his memory files, but...I am not him.]" the Vision looked away and then back, focusing on Clint's left ear. "[I apologize if this is a disappointment for you.]" he said, ducking his head a bit.

"I have faith in you guys, its one of the reasons I want to mentor you. I can tell your away and you work well as a team already."

He paused and sighed at what he was just told. He had figured this was the case. I mean Vision did look younger.

"Vis, I figured that was the case. It's ok. I guess this will just get a little taken used to. At least you know about your 'fathers' past. We were good friends for a long time."

He clicked the elevator door and waited for it to go down.

"[Yes. He was quite fond of you as well.]" the Vision said.

He assumed that Clint had somehow proven to Mr. Stark and possibly Captain America that he was actually Clint Barton and not some imposter Kree or Skrull shape-shifter. The Vision didn't think that Clint was an imposter either, but he was feeling just a touch over-protective of the team at the moment.

The elevator 'ding'ed and the doors opened, letting the two of them out onto the main floor. The Vision shifted into his usual teen hologram - sans embarrassing coat this time, but still with green hair.

Clint looked at Vision and almost burst out into laughter. He looked like he would fit in at a green day concert with all the little fan girls. He smiled and made his way towards the back door.

"So, the new look. It's kind of good on you. The idea with you having hair just amuses me. And thanks for that, I miss the old dynamic. I mean when it was Wanda, Vision, me, Simon and Bobbie....we were a good team. We were good friends. I miss the way things were back then."

He paused and opened the door. His glider lit up as he pulled a button from out of his pocket. He looked back over to Vision.

"I got a few upgrades for the old girl. She stills runs like the day I got her. So, just so I know when we start training, what the team dynamic like?"

"[Does it really look that bad?]" the Vision asked, slightly embarrassed. His holographic hair darkened to black. He usually preferred the green simply because he felt that it made him look a bit less like Iron Lad's twin brother, and while he hadn't changed his fundamental appearance until speaking with Cassie, he had been aware of the similarities. He didn't mind looking like Iron Lad's sibling, but he didn't really want that to be everyone's first association to him.

"[We follow Patriot for the most part.]" the Vision answered. "[I would place Kate as second-in-command, but if the situation concerns Hulkling, then Wiccan takes the lead. Stature and Hulkling do not tend to take leadership positions, and Tommy and I are still the "new kids". Does that help at all?]"

"I think it may be better if you let it down towards your ears."

He smiled at him and looked at the glider. It was still moving slowly towards them. He thought about Vision having long, Kurt Cobain type of hair and just laughed.

"Actually that helped alot. We'll have to see how well they do when they are in an open field. Does four vs three work for you Vis? Or you think we should take it easy at first?"

The Vision shrugged, modifying the hologram again. "[I think that would work fine. Just so long as you do not try to split up Wiccan and Hulkling.]" he smiled a little. "[They might "capture" each other and sneak off elsewhere for a little while. They have both been complaining about the amount of surveillance equipment inside the Tower.]" Not to mention making their annoyance known in other ways. There was a bit of a joke that, if you needed to find Billy, all you had to do was follow the burnt-out cameras. The Vision wasn't sure if this was a new occurence or if Billy's powers had always fried electronics around him. The Vision had never had any problems being in Billy's vicinity, though.

Clint looked at the hologram, he guessed that this Vision obviously didn't understand his sarcasm. He sighed and then smirked.

"You look fine Vis, I was just joking with you. And its duly noted, Billy and Teddy will be put on different teams. I'm sure they work well together but they will need to learn to work well with their teammates."

He jumped onto the glider and started going up in the air.

"So, you still able to fly? Or do you want to hop on?"

"[Wiccan and Hulkling do work well with their teammates.]" the Vision protested as dropped the hologram and kicked off of the ground. "[They were teammates before they were dating.]" [For a very short time if I am recalling correctly.] he amended to himself.

"[I am still flight-capable, yes.]" he said, glancing upwards to see if he could spot any impatient Young Avengers peering over the edge of the roof.

Clint started to go up, making sure Vision was still in hearing distance.

"Thats not what I mean at all. I'm sure they work great together, I just need to see who works off each other well. Back in the day we use to run drills, different members of the team in the training room. I remember working with Carol one time, It was awkward at first, but I ignored it and helped her out of a tough situation."

He laughed and kept heading for the roof. Hopefully the kids weren't waiting that long.
