Training Day

May 06, 2006 11:45

The Vision was the only one who had been in this room before. Granted, most of the others had been locked in the old Avenger’s training room, but this one was…neater. Cleaner. Not filled with broken stuff ( Read more... )

"I cannot be the only one who thought that sounded vaguely sexual." Billy whispered to Teddy as he watched Kate and Jubilee. His inner fanboy was dancing with glee at the prospect of possibly getting to spar with an X-Man later. But for now he had to focus on the matters at hand.

"We're teenagers, Billy." Teddy replied in an undertone. "It's our job to think that everything sounds vaguely sexual. It's practically a moral obligation."

Captain America seemed to be giving them a look. Teddy grinned at him and held up both hands, curling them into fists. "I learned as I went along." he said. "There's only so many times that you crunch up your knuckles before you start looking into that sort of thing."

Billy held up his own fists, one thumb sticking up for a few seconds before he quickly tucked it back down. "Just cause I don't use them doesn't mean I don't know the theory of how it's done."

Tommy looked at Cassie. "Okay, this they may have covered in Juvie, but I think I was sick. And Self defense wasn't exactly in the 'living weapon and hideous experimentation' part of the textbook."

He made a fist, attempting to keep his thumb tucked down. "Like this, right? My idea of defense is running before you get hit. Well, either that or sarcasm."

"[Curl your hand into a fist from the fingers down.]" the Vision said helpfully. "[If you just fold your hand and then try to tuck your fingers inside, you do not get as good of a fist. And it hurts your fingers if you actually land a blow.]" He demonstrated both the proper and the incorrect ways to make a fist.

He recalled Tommy's attempt to throw a punch at the Super-Skrull. Even though his body was built to withstand the impact caused by high-speed running, he was likely to break his hand if he kept punching like that.

Tommy attempted to follow along with Vision's instruction. Okay...so maybe this would actually help. Maybe it would hurts so damn much to hit things in super speed now...maybe...He grinned.

"Hey, you think that if I manage to speed up enough that my molecules can phase into something and then move my fist back and forth inside whatever it is I can make it explode from the inside out? That'd be awesome! We got any spare junk around here I can try that on?" He asked giddy at the idea of property damage.

"Just don't try it on me." Cassie had correctly formed a fist when Captain America asked and she held it up now. She made a note to explain to Tommy the concept of "overkill." Not that she wasn't tempted to watch him try on something inanimate.

"Hey, I don't hurt my frien...teammates." Tommy said looking around for an inanimate object to test his theory on. "Unless they deserve it."

The Vision told himself that it would be incorrect to smile at Tommy's slip of the tongue. Still, it was nice to know that his stint in the juvenile detention facility run by the evil bug-woman hadn't completely killed Tommy's trust in the world.

"[Do you really want to be that close to something when it explodes?]" he queried. "[What is your resistance to explosions, anyway?]"

The Vision's eyes fell on a rather beat up-looking punching bag. It was probably their best bet - it had been gathering dust since before Vision had come here for his own training, and it would make a large enough mess to amuse everyone.

"Dunno. I'm normally far enough away by the time they actually happen to avoid it." Tommy followed Vision's gaze to the punching bag. Oooo...shiny.

"Quick! Someone distract Cap before he figures out I'm about to blow something up!"

Cassie quickly covered her mouth so Cap wouldn't notice her giggle. "Vision, I'll punch you and pretend I've broken my hand. Just make sure I actually don't." She took a moment to calm herself- it wouldn't do to be trying to howl in agony while laughing.

"[I can do that.]" the Vision said, shifting slightly and concentrated on maintaining a density that wouldn't hurt Cassie's fist but would keep her from falling through him.

No one was going to believe that she broke her hand falling face-first through him, after all.

"[Cassie! Be careful!]" he said, pitching his voice so that Captain America could hear him.

Billy looked around quickly, then up at one of the lights.

He soothed is consious by telling himself that this was all part of training. He was making sure he had some real control over his powers by putting out just enough juice to make a light explode. It wasn't a spectacular explosion, but it was enough to catch Captain America's attention. "Sorry, my fault!"

Cassie flung her fist against the middle of the Vision's armor/body. "OW! Oh God! Ow!" She clutched her "injured" hand and pressed it against her stomach. She scrunched her face up into a rather believable look of pain and started to let a few tears well in her eyes (she had pretended to cry enough times to be an expert at this). Then Billy exploded one of the lights.

Well, that was probably a good enough distraction.

Tommy waited until Cap turned his back on him. The speedster grinned and then zipped up to the punching bag. He concentrated on speeding up his own molecules. One thing his god awful time in Juvie had taught him was some semblance of control over his powers. The scientists had just kept pushing and pushing him, which had little by little given him more control. He still hadn't gotten the hang of phasing through things yet. It was gonna be hell to learn , but he knew it'd be worth it.

"C'mon...C'mon..." Still concentrating, he made a fist the correct way and punched the bag. And was rewarded by his fist sinking into the bag itself. "YES!!" His concentration slipped just a little, however and the bag exploded with a loud BAM!

Tommy blinked as sawdust rained down around him. Not exactly what he had been trying for but still...a step forward nonetheless. He laughed maniacally.

With Cassie's shout of pain first, followed by the explosion of one of the lights, Captain America was sufficiently distracted for Tommy to get in a good explosion without interference.

That didn't mean that the speedster wasn't going to be in so much shit now.

"SHEPHERD!" Cap roared as Teddy thoughtfully tugged Kate, Eli and Jubilee out from under the rain of former-lightbulb.

"Is anyone else concerned that Tommy's corrupting those two?" he asked absently, trying not to grin.
