Giving the Devil His Due (tag Hawkeye

Mar 08, 2006 14:03

The Devil's Due took up the first floor of an older building just on the edge of Mutant Town. The building had been there since the early 1920s, and the ice cream parlor had been there since 1973. The 12 floors above the ice cream parlor were apartments that nobody officially rented ( Read more... )

Hawkeye had done some recon before getting to the edge of mutant town. He had found out the Young Avengers had been in this area and decided to come looking for answers. He walked, stopping at the sign and smirked.
"Wow not obvious at all." He thought to himself.
He knocked on the door seeing a man sweeping in the shop.

If Agamemnon Xanathos had been one to read minds -- and being a normal human, thank you very much, he was not -- he could have told Clint Barton that subtlety and Rowena Mox-Xanathos were two things that had never been mutually inclusive. Instead, the man merely looked up from his newspaper, one dark eyebrow raised as he looked at the stranger knocking on the glass door.

Folding the paper again with a rustle, he stood, walking briskly towards the door. The boy surely wasn't going to speak up to this stranger, and there was no point in antagonizing him by expecting him to.

Looking through the glass, the thin, swarthy man spoke just loudly enough to be heard through the glass. "If you're looking to take last-minute advantage of the coupon that ran in last weeks Mutant Town Times, you've come too late today. Come back tomorrow, they'll still honor it. They always do."

"Dont play me for an idiot man. I know about this place. Where can i find the kids?"
Clint didnt feel like having time to play. He figured it was only a matter of time till Cap came looking for him. He figured easier to get in and ask this guy the questions he needed to before his cover was fully blown.

Dark eyes stared at the man through the door for a long moment before Agamemnon replied. "Given that I have no idea who you are, and that I have no idea which of the dozens of children that cycle through this shop on a daily basis you are referring to, I'm afraid that I can't tell you that."

Where the hell was a family member who actually came here fairly often? Cyrus, of course, was going to be completely useless in this situation, which was not entirely the boy's fault, but Agamemnon certainly had no idea what he was supposed to do when they had a visitor who claimed want knowledge that he certainly didn't have. Though the stranger did indeed seem slightly familiar.

((OOC: I've been assuming, since you've been using 'Clint' to refer to him and haven't mentioned codename/costume in your posts, that he's not there as 'Hawkeye'? If I'm wrong, please maybe mention it in a post?))

Clint rolls his eyes and sighs. He takes off the hat he was wearing.
"My name is Clint Barton. I used to be Hawkeye. And the kids I'm looking for, are the young avengers."
He pauses sure that the man will ask him about the rumors of his death.
"And before you ask, I got better."

((OOC: If he was there in costume he wouldnt be undercover. Sorry for not specifying.))

If the stranger with Clint Barton's face -- of course, now he could place him, who could have escaped all that coverage in the news? Even a citizen who didn't much care for the costumed idiots who constantly wrecked the city all the time would know of them. They were one of the reasons Agamemnon had moved away from New York.

And here he had been so sure that Rowena would have nothing to do with the Avengers after that last fracas he'd heard about. However, nothing in the way this man moved or spoke seemed to be untrustworthy, despite his former dead status. But then, super-powered vigilantes tended to break the rules that the rest of the world was bound to. Though he was sure that Hawkeye had not had any superpowers... guilty by association, Agamemnon decided as he opened the door. "Come in, sit down. I hadn't heard that New York's latest group of misguided teenagers was involved, but then, the details we have right now are sketchy at best ( ... )

"Yessir." Cyrus said, his voice barely rising into audibility. That, of course, was normal for him. He scuttled behind the counter, managing to make himself look very small and harmless despite being close to six feet tall and having the build of the better class of god. Not one of those pesky things with all the extra tenticles and eye stalks.

The boy kept one large red eye on Clint as he moved. Never turned his back on anyone if he could avoid it. That way lay danger and kicks and bites. He could hear alphamother in the back, setting her spells and her wards, reinforcing Grandmother's work. He could smell blood.

There would be chicken for dinner tonight. Maybe even raw. That would be nice.

Clint followed the man and took a seat. He was amazed at how much bigger it was then it looked from the outside. He thought about it for a minute and looked to the man.
"So do you have any ideas where they are right now? I mean no offense to you but you wouldnt be letting me in if you didnt."
He paused and looked at the man. He could see the doubt in his face.
"You dont believe I am who I say I am do you?"

"I hope you will forgive my nephew if he is... Credulous."

Abraham Maharissa rose slowly from the seat he'd been occupying near the jukebox in the corner, smiling a tired old man's smile. He walked forward slowly, leaning heavily on his cain as he studied Clint with dark eyes. "I am afraid we do not know exactly where anyone is at this time. They seem to have been kidnapped." He gave a little wave. "Nothing to worry about, really. I'm sure they will be back with us at any moment. My sister has gone to retreive them."

The distinctive smell of ozone slowly filled the air, and everything started to take on a bluish glow.

"In fact, I'd say that's them now." Abraham said cheerfully as a pack of teenagers and one very old woman popped into existance in the middle of the room. "Oh dear. Rowena, have you gotten yourself shot again? Agamemnon, help your mother."

Clint looks into the middle of the room, completely un phased.
"I sort of miss teleporting."
He notices the teenagers have truly gained the nickname of Young Avengers. He saw Vision, who was now very much a teenager, he then noticed Cassie who's mask didn't hide her identity very well. THen he saw the two who he were assuming were twins, one who looked a lot like pietro and the other who reminded him of Thor. Then he saw who he guessed was the young Captain America, and a Blond hulk.
"Well I'll say one thing for these kids, they sure fit the nickname."

Kate leaned heavily against Cassie, trying to resist the inside-out sunburn sensation and the way the world was tilting and rocking like a boat. Her throat was starting to feel uncomfortably dry, too, making her wish she'd thought to swallow a handful or two of snow before Billy--and Mrs. Xanathos?--had zapped them back here.

"Medic!" she croaked. The world tilted more drastically, then, and she grabbed Cassie's arm for balance and an anchor. Owww, not a good idea.

Clint reacted is speed and quickly jumped over.
"What the the hell happened to her? And who is she? I didnt see her before I saw the rest of you...and is that one of my old bows?"
Clint regains focus and looks again to the kids.
"I need an explanation guys. No arguments. I need to know what happened to her now."

"[No. What we need is medical attention.]" the Vision snapped, inserting himself between Kate and the vaguely familiar man. Something in the back of his head was pinging at him, but at the moment he was more concerned with the health of his teammates. "[She's suffered an electric shock and doesn't need you shoving her about right now.]"

A little bubble of memory burst in his head and the Vision cocked his head to the side. "[Clint Barton? I was under the impression that you were dead.]"

Tommy came to a very important revelation once the hazy blue light in front of his eyes vanished. Teleporting? It made him sick. He wasn’t going to ever do that again. He would have thought with the speeds he could go at that motion sickness was an impossible concept but he was clearly very wrong. It made him feel a little better to see Billy wasn’t in much better shape but, when the other teen started to collapse he gave him a not-exactly gentle shove in the general direction of one of the booths before crawling into the other seat. Keeping Billy from cracking his head on the ground was totally the final requirement of his nice-guy quota for the day ( ... )

Wait!" Cassie looked around the Vision, still holding onto Kate so she wouldn't fall. "How can you be alive? Mr. Stark said the Scarlet Witch murdered you!"

This didn't make sense, although lots of things in her life didn't. But if this wasn't an imposter, if Clint Barton, Hawkeye, was alive, could her dad be? Did they lie to her? Her head was in no condition to try and understand this.
