I'm Not The Next Of Them I Am The First Of Me

"It's settled then." Iron Man said. "Teddy will spend half a year with the Kree and half a year with the Skrulls. Then he'll declare his final allegiance. But until then, he'll make regular visits to earth. If he is harmed or threatened, or he misses even one of his scheduled visits, the ( Read more... )

The Kree and Skrull soldiers glared at each other, but neither was willing to make their race look bad in front of the boy. There would be time for fighting when the boy came to the obvious conclusion and made the correct choice.

Hulkling paused in the opening to the Skrull ship and looked back at the Young Avengers, and especially at Billy.

"I hope that someday you can understand my reasons." He said. "And that someday, you will forgive me."

The space ship doors sealed themselves behind the aliens and the Kree and the Skrulls left New York and the Avengers' Tower behind them. The Super-Skrull watched them until they'd disappeared into the distance.

Then he started laughing.

"I can't believe it. I can't believe it worked!"

Seconds later, Teddy Altman was pushing his hair back out of his eyes and grinning at the gathered super heroes.

"Thanks for playing along, guys." He said. "I couldn't have done it without you."

Billy pulled away from the very startled Nico and ran over to Teddy, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend’s neck. “If you ever scare me like that again,” he said, kicking the blonde’s shin.

“So who just went off with the alien guys?” Nico asked, wishing that Victor was up there at the moment. He would probably have a better idea of what the hell had just happened.

“The Super-Skrull,” Billy said, actually managing to not say the name like it was a swear word.

Teddy wrapped his arms around Billy as tightly as he dared, burying his face in his boyfriend's hair. This close up, Billy would realize that Teddy was shaking, but Teddy didn't care.

"It worked." he whispered, swallowing around a lump in his throat. He took a deep breath, letting the smell of sweat and ozone and something that was purely Billy fill his nostrils.

This was right. This was where he belonged.

He untangled one hand from it's death-grip in Billy's cape and used it to tilt his boyfriend's face up.

"God, I love you." Teddy breathed and kissed him soundly.

Billy was so busy concentrating on the fact that Teddy hadn’t been taken away in one of those space ships that he didn’t notice the kiss coming until it was happening. He let out a startled noise and clutched Teddy’s shoulder.

Nico rolled her eyes skywards, glad that Molly wasn’t there to make any comments about snogging, and Captain America cleared his throat.

Loudly.

“Boys.”

Cassie grinned, then when Teddy snogged Billy she coughed and looked away at Kristoff, whose muscles were twisted into what seemed to be a really uncomfortable look of confusion. That put the grin back on her face. "Something bothering you?"

"I thought- how did you-"

"Know it wasn't Teddy? Well I hope you could tell if a super skrull was impersonating me."

Clint had a grin on his face. He knew something was up when Billy was so cool with things. He shook his head and looked over at the two of them.

"You realize Super skrull almost blew your cover? He called Cap, captain. Good to see everything worked itself out."

"[I don't think that the Kree and the Skrull knew that abbreviating Captain America's pseudonym is common among other super heroes.]" the Vision pointed out. "[And even if they did, they would perhaps assume that it was the gravity of the situation that called for a fuller title.]"

He bit back the urge to comment on Kristoff Vernard's confusion. The boy had only met Teddy...yesterday? Goodness. They had been busy.

The Vision's hand dropped down to brush against Cassie's as he smiled at Billy and Teddy.

"Skrulls were never the brightest bulbs in the universe. No offense to you uh, whatever your name is. And Teddy, your more like your your father than you think."

Clint smirked and looked at the ensamble of teenagers. He nodded and shook his head a little.

"So, you guys are the future...looks like the world doesn't need to worry, with a bit more practice of course."

"The future... right." Kevin shook his head, his usual melancholy taking over. Standing inside the cockpit of the Leapfrog, he muttered, "So instead of the next Einstein, or even Ansel Adams, we're here with a bunch of Stone Cold Steve Austins."

Kevin cracked a grudging smile at the reunion, though. He didn't belong here. No one was going to go to that kind of length for him. Might as well just go back to his job at the dump for all the good he'd do with this crowd.

After teasing Kristoff, Cassie was too pumped to pay any attention to Hawkeye, Kevin, or just about anyone else. She had wanted to run up to Teddy and hug him for a job well done, and when Vision's hand brushed against hers this want transferred onto him. Cassie almost jumped onto Vision and swung her arms around him, almost letting go of the orange she had been munching on.

"That was awesome!" Endorphins were wonderful indeed.

The Vision let out a squeak of surprise, folding his arms around Cassie almost reflexively. Touching her hand had been mostly accidental and he certainly hadn't been expecting such an enthusiastic reaction.

More and more of his mind seemed to be devoting itself to memorizing the feel of Cassie against him, even as he told himself that the hug was strictly platonic and that he should be damn thankful that Cassie didn't hate him for hurting Kristoff Vernard.

He wasn't about to let go or pull away first, though.

"Yes Cap?" Teddy asked, grinning and keeping his hold on Billy. If Captain America was expecting a "sorry" from Teddy for kissing his own boyfriend, he wasn't going to get it. Teddy didn't think that was a problem, though.

Captain America looked like he was about three seconds from rolling his eyes. "I'm sure you're very happy to see each other, but there's still the clean up."

Iron Man quietly cleared his throat. "We've got some unexpected guests downstairs," he said, looking at the super-solider. "One of them is your little friend. I expect she's here for her grandchildren."

"Mrs. Xanathos? She's here?" Billy asked, glancing towards the side of the building. "I thought she said she needed time..."

"It would seems that whatever she needed to do, she's done it," Captain America said, the barest hint of annoyance in his voice.

Teddy looked around and made a face. The Tower was pretty trashed. He hoped that Aunt May and the other non-powered people had gotten out safely. But with Billy in his arms and adrenalin singing in his veins, Teddy was on top of the world. Right now, there was nothing that he couldn't do.

Teddy knew that he was going to absolutely crash later, but he'd deal with that when it came.

"What do you need us to do?" he asked.

"You deal with Mrs. Xanathos. She seems to like you," Cap nodded to Billy. "The rest of you can help with the clean-up!" he added, raising his voice. "And somebody go find the Xanathoses, please." He shook his head. His own stint in the presence of the two teenagers had been... disturbing.

"Where's Tommy?"

"I don't know." Cassie answered. She frowned. Tommy could blow things up and beat things to death at superspeed, he wouldn't be in any trouble, right? She thought back to how the Super-Skrull punched the speedster.

Shoot.

"Why should we clean up?" Kristoff whined. "We didn't cause any property damage."

"Shut up." To think Cassie had thought of hugging the idiot to even out leaping on the Vision.
