There was one person inside the Tower who didn’t stumble as it came under Skrull fire. Kl’rt the Super-Skrull had not been expecting it, but he was able to absorb the shock through his more rubbery limbs. He had healed the damage from the altercation with the Kree over the young emperor, but it appeared that now was the time for another round

He heard Kate humming a Final Fantasy theme and tried not to make a face. Damn, that was going to be stuck in his head for the rest of the day now. He'd need to fill her in on the plan, such as it was. He just needed Kl'rt to agree to it.
Ah!
"Could Dorrek-Vell, or whatever my real name is, get a test-run of both cultures?" he asked. "You know, like, stay with the Kree for awhile, get all sorts of information and crap from them, and then go spend time with the Skrulls before he had to make the choice?"
"If he knew what to look for, or what might be important and stuff, he could find out all sorts of information about what the Kree were planning -- not to mention it would extend the cease-fire for awhile longer, but that's a tangent for another time."
And now for the sales pitch. Teddy crossed his fingers for luck.
"Kl'rt, I’d have no idea what to look for. You would, though. And if we made an agreement that “Teddy Altman” or “Dorrek” or whichever name you want was required to call in and reassure everyone that he was all right, then they wouldn’t dare try to hurt you or lock you up or anything. You’d get information to fight the Kree and I," Teddy’s voice cracked embarrassingly and he swallowed hard. "I wouldn’t have to leave Billy and the others."
Teddy bit his lip. Please let that be enough. Please let this work.

"Someone want to tell me what the hell the godzilla reject is doing here? Let alone why this place is still in one piece?" Wait don't answer that. I'm going to go grab my bow."

He really hoped that Xavin and Kl'rt wouldn't start fighting again. Note to self: When planning things involving the Super-Skrull, avoid all contact with other adults.

"Do you have a good reason? Are you going to tell me a guy like that has suddenly switched to the side of the angels."
The tone in Clint's voice wasn't very thrilled about having the super skrull right in front of him. But the kid was protecting him for some reason, it had to be good.

"This wasn't part of his plan." he continued, gesturing around at the walls of the Tower. "It was supposed to be a grab-and-go, but we ran, and there was a whole, big misunderstanding and then the Kree showed up, and--"
He was babbling. Teddy clapped his mouth shut and grit his teeth, breathing through his nose.
Come on, Kl'rt. he thought. Help me. Someone help me..

This needed to be resolved quickly. The violence outside was accelerating, and he needed to ensure the safety of Karolina and her friends.

"I'm adding Skrulls to the list of things I hate, right next to time travel. Teddy, I'll do my best to help here. But I got a bad feeling even having him in the tower."
Clint paused again and then looked to the three skrulls.
"Do we have a plan?"

"What did he just call you?"

Teddy relinquished his Hulkling form and held up his hands helplessly.
"I'm not ordering you to do anything." he said. "I may have been born-- hatched Dorrek VIII, but I'm Teddy Altman now. My home is here, with Billy and my friends. I can't help your people, Kl'rt. But I know that you can."

"Look," Teddy continued, trying to keep his desperation from appearing in his voice. "Xavin's going to be here, right? He can teach me about Skrull society and everything so that I don't wind up being just some puppet."
Fuck, Teddy hated this. He knew that, a year from now, he was going to refuse to leave earth again, and this was just going to happen all over again. But he'd have a year to come up with a plan.
"Please, Kl'rt. Just...just give me a year. Just...let me bury my mom."
He hadn't actually meant to say that last bit. He hadn't even been thinking about it. It had just...slipped itself in there and out of his mouth.

"I'll explain on the way." he said, wincing and rubbing his elbow. "We have to end this now before anyone else gets hurt.
He set off down the hallway, features shifting as he went.
