Heh...I got my FFVII AC DVD last week, four days before the street date; 'cause I'm cool like that! I've probably seen the movie over 10 times already...the initial "wow" factor has kind of worn off, but I still find myself enjoying the movie every time I watch it. We played AC on the TV's at my store, even though we're supposed to play this DVD with game commercials on them. Hell, I even watched it with my parents (it helps that this movie has Korean subtitles). My dad seemed to really enjoy it...he remembers the days when I used to play FFVII all day, so he recognized some of the characters in this movie right off the bat. xD Apparently the DVD is sold out everywhere (my store had over 100 preorders, with no extra copies to sell). So this is a very good sign. I was afraid that the leaked Internet versions in Sept would affect the sales, but I guess not. Hopefully this will influence SE to do an FFVII remake!
This is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time! Hats off to SE for giving the fans what they wanted; they should be proud of this movie for the incredible computer animation alone. The special features are pretty nice-- there's about a 40 minutes "making of", and a recollection movie that shows footage from the actual game. I wish they included the Last Order anime, but oh well. The only translation that really pissed me off was "dilly dally shilly shally" for "zuru zuru zuru zuru". WTF? I've never even heard of that phrase before...The English voices were decent for the most part. I really like Rachael Leigh Cook as Tifa! The best English voices were probably Tifa's, Yuffie's, and Cloud's (although it seems like Steve Burton tried a little too hard at times). Of course, I don't even have to mention the Japanese voices...I thought everyone was casted perfectly.
I'm usually not one to post when there's an argument going on (at least not anymore...I'm well past that phase), but this one particular post at a forum that I lurk on REALLY got on my nerves, so I felt the need to respond. Here's what the post said:
The problem is that 99.9% of the people who are like "ZOMG teh FFVII is the greatest thing ever" are idiots who can't think for themselves. Most people who claim that FFVII is the greatest thing ever are people who buy into the hype and the fact that FFVII is a more mainstream RPG a little too much -- they don't for themselves. It's the same crowd that thinks stuff like GTA and Halo are the greatest games of all time. Those people can be criticized because they essentially have no rational thought of their own which renders their opinion completely worthless.
As much as I liked FFVII (and I liked it a lot), the fanboys piss me off like no other.

You're generalizing. I've been playing RPG's ever since I was 6 years old (21 now). I've played many in the past such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Suikoden, Tales, Breath of Fire, Earthbound, the list goes on. Yet, not only is Final Fantasy VII my favorite RPG of all time, it's also my favorite game of all time. Hell, it wasn't even my first Final Fantasy...IV was. I have a special attachment to the game, mainly because of the story and characters. Is there something wrong with that? We all have different opinions here, so I don't understand why people can't respect others opinions (I'm not talking about just you, but certain people in general).
I personally think that Final Fantasy VII was the best RPG I've ever played. Now, you can say that the game is mainstream, so it's cliche to like it because everyone else does...so that gives people the right to bash on the game...blah blah blah! Bitch whine moan! I never hear the end of it from FFVII haters. "Yaaay, a game is mainstream, just because I PERSONALLY don't like it and think it's overrated, I should raid on everyone's parade!" I have several other friends that are RPG fanatics, and most of them would agree that FFVII is one of the best RPG's. Now, not everyone's going to think this...and that's fine. But I'm just letting you know that not every FFVII fan is blinded by mainstream games like GTA and Halo. My friends and I have tried many RPG's in the past, including the lesser known ones such as Persona, Rhapsody, and Atelier Iris (just naming some random titles off). Why does it upset people because some think that FFVII is one of the best RPG's of it's time? Should we all praise lesser known RPG's from companies like Nippon Ichi and Atlus, just because it's the "cool" thing to do? FFVII is the best selling RPG of all time (at least, that's what wiki says), so I suppose SOMETHING about the game made a lot of people like it.
Personally, I hate the GTA and Halo franchise; so don't automatically assume that everyone who likes FFVII is in the mainstream crowd. Most of the games that I play nowadays are hardly even considered to be mainstream (King of Fighters, NGBC, Garou: MOTW, Street Fighter, Shadow of the Colossus, Shadow Hearts, Katamari, Mushi-Hime Sama, etc).
FFVII haters annoy the hell out of me, especially people like the one above. Just because I hate a certain game, I won't go into a particular topic or forum ABOUT the game and start trolling. Why are there so many arrogant assholes like this in the world? I just want to shove all of them into a barrel and blast it into the sun. They all automatically assume that EVERY FFVII fan knows absolutely nothing about video games, and we're all into the mainstream crap like True Crime and 50 Cent ZOMG BULLETPROOFMONK. I'm not trying to deny that there actually are people like this...however, not every FFVII fan is blinded by mainstream games. Anyhow, I'm done with my FFVII ranting ^_^;
I'm not going to school this quarter because I'm taking intensive Japanese over the summer (a years worth of second year Japanese in a quarter). Sounds...INTENSE! I'm certainly not looking forward to it. I'm trying to get in as much gaming until June. I started a new Kingdom Hearts game yesterday. I really want to beat it (never ended up finishing it) so I can play Kingdom Hearts II. I hope to beat Kingdom Hearts I/II, Shadow Hearts: From the New World, and Dragon Quest VIII all before June...I hope I can do it @_@. June's going to be an excellent month for games though-- KOF XI and SFA Anthology! Holy shit! KOF XI's going to be the only game that I play for at least a good two months. =O It looks sooo good.
