I Come Alive
When John Sheppard wanted to take a dip in the vast of ocean of Lantea he dives in from this high post. It’s tall enough that the plunge into the water is a long one but is safe enough that when he into the water he won’t kill himself.
There was a time during his dark days where he would jump off dangerous cliffs. Those were the days he felt worthless and a failure. He felt at that time that he could do nothing right; just fuck up everything he does. Now that he is on Atlantis, those days are over…
The people he met and the deeds he done here has changed all that.
Now he takes these dips not to risk dying in some horrible accident. He dives to let go. His issue of the day was the hallucination of Kolya he encountered on that planet. As he takes a few steps back, he shook his head. Even in death the man still taunts him as ridiculous as it sounded.
But today….a few worlds affected him.
“You torture yourself.”
As he began running to jump he wondered…is it true? He tortured himself at all his failures and losses as he did in the past. It was true he couldn’t save everyone…he lost Ford, people died under his watch. Yes he agonized over the losses but he found himself recovering quickly here on the Atlantis Expedition.
But then there was Elizabeth. Losing her was his biggest failure. He had saved her so many times, but from the replicators…he failed miserably. Now she was gone…lost and frozen in space somewhere, even though he had that one tiny chance of saving her. But not everything is impossible as he learned in this place. There was a chance he would find her….all he needed to do was try and he will. Even if it takes days, weeks or years he would not give up.
As John jumped off the edge he started to let that all go. He was falling fast but for a moment, he believed he was flying which he loved so much. He forgets about everything the Kolya hallucination said and replaces it with all the good he did in this galaxy. The people he saved and the millions of lives he made better thanks to his deeds. He knew if he kept those things in mind, his few failures will be nothing.
Finally he fell into the water…and he was free.
