Feel the guilt of a sinner
Feel the cold of a winter
It was no surface but all feeling
Maybe at the time it felt like dreaming
John stood out into the ocean as his hands gripped onto cold railing of the balcony. He had been through too much today. Bound, gagged, beaten and humiliated he was made to feel small and weak in front of his teammates and gramps. But seeing the way his 12th great grandfather who loved him so, go bat shit on Kolya almost pulverizing him to death, he was reminded him about the one thing that haunted him the most during that whole….fiasco.
It wasn’t the pain, it wasn’t the torture, and it wasn’t the humiliation. It was one sound, a horrible and ear shattering that still rang in his ears even when the chaos had ended. It was the sound of Elizabeth’s agonized voice as she begged for the scene she had witnessed with her own eyes the sight of his near demise at the hands of a captured wraith.
His love for her had known no bounds. He had never loved a woman so much. His heart fluttered when she passed by. When she smiled butterflies still fluttered in his stomach as if he gazed upon her for the very first time. He would do everything to protect her. Yet he hurt her today in his constant trouble he got himself into. He couldn’t help but wonder was there was a danger he couldn’t protect her from…himself?
It wasn’t Kolya who hurt her…it was him.
His thoughts were interrupted by a soft touch to his face. He turned his head to see Elizabeth standing by his side comforting him. It did ease his tension a little. But still the pain lingered on.
It wasn’t enough. In the morning, what happened today will linger over their heads. But for now, her soft touch against his skin would do him just fine.
