Congratulations, President Obama
WOOOO! The Democrats have taken back the White House! After eight years of Dubya doctrine, we have FINALLY freed ourselves!!!!!

I wasn't originally an Obama supporter. Part of me still wishes that Hillary Clinton had secured the Democratic party's nomination and that she was now Madame President. Although I'll always be a bit disappointed that that didn't happen, I'm so, SO happy to see that she didn't "lose" in vain. People were so terrified that the long-fought primary season would destroy our party. It obviously didn't. People were afraid that upset Clinton supporters, like myself, would ultimately side with John McCain out of bitterness. If the majority rules, then the majority would certainly say that we didn't.

We finally won.

After eight years of living in fear that women's rights would become non-existent, that the oil men would continue our dependence on a limited and overly expensive resource, that we'd never really see equality in this country, and that the war in Iraq would simply never end, after eight years of ALL of that suffering, we are now ready and willing to see some change. Obama's election obviously isn't going to fix anything over night, but, I think, it certainly says something about where this country has been and where it needs to go.

We have our first black president. The Democratic party has a majority in the Senate. We are ready for change.

John McCain was a gracious loser, pledging his support for our new president and quieting his over-zelous supporters whenever they actually booed our new president's name. Although I was far from satisfied when the Democrats "lost" the election 4 years ago, I would not have actually felt the need to be a sore loser on national tv, even after the candidate whom I supported had already quieted me once. I almost feel bad for the guy. He almost had my vote.

And then he picked that awful, AWFUL woman as his running mate. Perhaps, more than anything, Obama owes his president to McCain's poor choice of a running mate. I know a lot of people were waiting to see who he chose. I'm not sure he could have chosen anyone much worse than who he did. I'm so, SO relieved to know that that TERRIBLE excuse for a woman does not have a shot at becoming default president any time soon. Even if John McCain were to drop dead at some point in the next four years (something I don't wish on anyone, other than perhaps ONE person who shall not be named, by the way), Sarah Palin would not be allowed to ruin this country with her zealotry and utter lack of intelligence. There won't be any legislation against abortion in cases of RAPE AND INCEST in this country any time soon. Women won't be forced to pay for their own rape kits in the majority of this country any time soon. Science will not be murdered in the name of "religion" any time soon.

The religious right won't be controlling my government, and I won't feel the need to run away to Canada any time within the next 4 years.

Thank G-d for that. Thank G-d for that.

Can we finally see some change and equality in this country?

Yes, we can.
