I figured I'd write an update. What the hell?

My 8:30 Analysis class was canceled last week because there was supposed to be "winter weather." I didn't really see anything of the sort, and I was actually LATE for my 1:30 class because RAIN made the trip take twice as long as usual. Welcome to redneck driving, Shana. I will be seriously happy to get to be on ugly route 130 in Jersey again, whenever that is, simply because people have BRAINS there.

The same class is actually quite thankfully canceled again tomorrow (well, today technically) because the professor is going out of town or some nonsense. Gotta love schools where students take a back seat to research. Woo! I can honestly use the time to sleep in, although I'm (stupidly) up this late anyway. I've been walking around like a zombie for the past two days because I couldn't go to sleep to save my life Monday night. Damned 3 day weekends making me think I can operate on my normal sleep schedule! I really need to control myself better starting next week, when I'll actually have full weeks of classes, pretty much non-stop until the first week of March. Otherwise, bad things are going to happen. Like me never showing up to one or more classes and therefore failing. Either that, or there's always me falling asleep at the wheel to consider....

Having my car is really quite delightful. I've done a billion things over the past week, although I realize that I can't keep going at this pace or else I'll never be able to afford my car payment. But, like, wow. Last Thursday, I went to a tap performance at Meredith College, a local, liberal artsy "private women's college" that makes me yearn for Goucher. Ahhh...a school where the students are actually encouraged to take courses outside of their major, and they can attend free faculty recitals! (instead of paying $5 like at State, grumble grumble). On Sunday, 3 of us went to actually went to a faculty recital (and paid, UGH) or another at NCSU. It actually was pretty good, although the guest cellist wasn't my favorite of all time. He was kind of...mediocre, as far as some of the other players that I've heard go, to be honest. Then, I went to dinner with Robyn and her mother. Entertaining, if nothing else. We ate out near a big, fancy mall, but of course, I couldn't shop there because it was a Sunday in NC. You guessed it: They rolled up the carpets around dinner time. Fabulous, no? In the middle of dinner, I was invited to go see "The Bucket List" with some friends. Even though it was at the expensive theater and also meant a trip home on redneck roads (with rednecks!! *gasp*), I agreed to going because I wanted to see the movie, and the friends that were going were some of the cooler ones. Yesterday, I went to some smoothie-making event at NC State's small, yet trying to be somewhat active, Hillel. And today, I went to a free screening of "How She Move." It's about stepping, and it was pretty good. It fit into it's hip-hop, rough side of the tracks genre pretty typically, but hey, I apparently enjoy that sort of thing.

Over the next 3 nights, Meredith is hosting the North Carolina dance festival. Guess who is most likely going ALL THREE NIGHTS.

The only drawback is that I somehow got weaseled into being the UGSA rep for the math department, so now I have to go to some meeting or another 4 Mondays out of the semester. But hey, at least there is apparently food involved.

Oh, and there's always that whole gas thing. Fucking scam. And the retarded drivers in this state. I swear to G-d, they make me want to scream. If I go 45 on a road that's marked at 35, they ride my ass...but if I go 45.5, they're light years behind me. WHAT THE FUCK?! Then, there is always the lovely trucker that was going 10 down a major road (I think it's even NC's idea of a state highway?) during rush hour, the perfect legality of parking and taking up the whole right lane after a certain hour, and the dude that blocked the whole parking lot next to Wolfmart this evening so that it was nearly impossible to get out of there. Oh yes, I nearly had my ass end in the middle of Hillsborough Street during the 6:00 rush. Thanks, asshole.

But all in all, freedom is fun. Now, I just need to take a step back and enjoy said freedom in moderation before I go broke without ever having to make even my first car payment....ugghghghg
