Doing a 180

I was committed to getting myself a copy of FFXIV in the first official release week. But after hearing too many horror stories, and not just from leghoneun but from colleagues who picked up the collector's edition in advance, I decided that it would be better to put this title on...indefinite...hold.

Like I said in my response to leghoneun, I had low expectations with FFXIV to begin with. I'd rather not purchase and enter a gaming world with low expectations because rather than trying to enjoy the experience, I'd be spending too much time searching for faults and criticizing the game. Fortunately, I didn't have to do any of that. Estya and a bunch of my colleagues did it for me. So too did a bunch of early adopters. And their response on both JP and English forums were ugly.

However, MMOs constantly evolve and change. I'd like to try playing FFXIV for myself one day rather than take a back seat and watching my friends play. So I'll wait. I'll wait and see if there are any new improvements by the time the PS3 version is released and then make my decision by then.

So with FFXIV out of the way, here are a few updates:

- Now that I have a new computer system, I need to get some new peripherals as well. I recently got a special bundle Logitech wireless keyboard K320 and a wireless Logitech Marathon Mouse MX705 from an IT expo for a rather cheap price. It's nothing exciting. I'm not really into gaming keyboards and mice. I'm happy with whatever works. Besides, most of my gaming activities are still on the PS3 and Xbox360. PC gaming is only for a few select titles, ie. Mainly FPS, Civ 5, Fallout series, Valve titles (TF2 & Portal), and other casual and indie games that are on sale on Steam.

- Picked up the new Borderlands DLC last weekend, and I forced myself to stop playing it after the first hour. I thought the increased level cap patch was coming with the new DLC. I guess I misunderstood. There's a lot of exp to gain from this DLC, but if there's no increased level cap, then I'd rather not play any further. There's no reason to earn all that exp and still be stuck at 61.

- Civ 5...it's still going.

- Starcraft 2. Vendors still jacking up the price. Not getting it yet!

- Explored what this Minecraft hype was all about, and I still don't understand it. However, it was rather entertaining exploring what other people have created. Guess I just don't have the creative juice to understand this sandbox program.

And that's it for now. One more thing that I'd like to briefly touch on: Playstation Move. I had a chance to play around with the move controller and Sports Champion while buying my keyboard and mouse. My initial impression: I'm pleasantly surprised. It works! And it works rather well! Might I invite the haters and say it works better than the Wiimote??

I'll hold off buying the Move bundle for now, but I have to admit that the PS Move is shaping up to be a near-future purchase for me. It has potential, and I'm excited to see how it works on more titles. This might become the console's answer to the PC's keyboard-mouse precision aiming.
