Adventures in English

I got up at 6:30 today, got ready to go to school, pumped up my bike tire (hoping it would last long), and left the house. 5 minutes into my bike ride, the tire went completely flat. I ended up walking the remaining 2.5 miles to school, which took about 40 minutes and made me 30 minutes late to class. I walked in, gave Ernesto and Casey this look of total exhaustion (I'm tired of that damn tire), and sat down.

We were having poetry presentations in English today; there were some damn fine presentations. Jim did a stick-figure representation of "Bohemian Rhapsody," and despite the fact that I want to kill him sometimes, I thought it was pretty funny. Then Mike Matthews went up and did "Hotel California," the best rock and roll song ever written, in my opinion. He sang it, which was absolutely hilarious. Later, Matt Horne went up and did "My Immortal" by Evanescence. Personally, I think the song is downright beautiful, but Matt's emotional story about the distant relationship with his brothers made it even moreso.

Got an essay from Mrs. Edens back today. I got a 47/50. :) Thus, my streak of getting nothing but A's on essays continues. She also gave back the poems we wrote (you can read it a few entries down) with a nice little 50/50 penciled in at the top. Naturally, this put me in a good mood.

AP Government was really fun today, as well. We held random discussions. One person asked, "What is the best compliment someone of the opposite sex can tell you?" So, we went around and asked every goddamn person in the class. When the question circled around to Marc, he opened up his notebook and read something he had written down. A few girls "ahh"ed, naturally, clearly impressed with Marc's ability to read. :p

The question came to me, finally, so I winged it. In a nutshell, this is what I said. "Well, I rarely believe girls when they compliment me. When a girl gives me a compliment...it probably means she wants something." I was trying to be funny, and I didn't believe it. It caused a lot of laughter. I looked ahead at Casey, and she didn't seem to think it was very funny. She stared back at me for a few seconds with a look I haven't seen in a very long time. She gave me a look, as if she was trying to tell me how insulted she was by the comment. I don't think she realized that I was talking about girls in general, and that she's the exception.

I'll talk to her tomorrow about it, maybe.
