Phoenix Suns Update

Wow, what a game tonight against the Miami Heat. Before I start raving, please keep in mind that the Heat were without Dwyane Wade, their best player in my opinion. Had Wade played, the Heat might generated a much more effective offense. Regardless, it's the Suns' offense that really dominated the game tonight.

The final score was 111-93 in the Suns favor; that isn't that remarkable, because the Suns blow out teams all the time. What's remarkable is what the Suns did in the 1st quarter: 47 POINTS IN 12 MINUTES. They set the season record for most points in a quarter, as well as a record for highest points in a quarter at the Suns' current arena. Steve Nash controlled the offense, as usual, by dishing out an amazing 12 assists in the 1st quarter alone. 12 assists in a quarter is the second-highest amount in NBA history. John Lucas racked up 14 assists in a quarter for the San Antonio Spurs a long time ago.

Nash ended the game with 19 assists (he dished out 22 the other night in New York, in Triple Overtime), while the Suns ended with 38 assists on 42 field goals made. That is an incredible statistic, especially when you consider that the league average is about 20 assists on 37 field goals. So, they managed to rack up more assists than most teams rack up field goals made on an average night.

Admittedly, the game was pretty boring after the first half, since the Suns seemed to be on cruise control and the Heat were pretty dead for most of the game. Shaq was limited to 8 points in 23 minutes due to stellar defense by Boris Diaw, Kurt Thomas, and Shawn Marion.

Nonetheless, the game was practically historic for the NBA.
