Guess who I bumped into in town yesterday on my way to meet Xun at Lido.
I think you'll never ever guess it. It's that kind of thing that won't actually spring into you mind when asked a question like "guess who I bumped into in town yesterday on my way to meet Xun at Lido".
I bumped into my mum munching on a sandwich.
It's one thing to bump into people you know, and another to bump into you mum but even so, that has happened to me on quite a few occasions at the most amusing places. But it brings things to another level when you bump into your mum in town when you're on your way to meet Xun at Lido to watch Transformers.
So this is what happened. (Translated into English for the benefit of the non-chinese readers)
-bumps into mum walking towards bus stop and eating sandwich-
-waves in a friendly manner-
mum: oh hello. you're here. have you had dinner?
me: no.
mum: take this -hands me a sandwich-
me: that's your dinner right? nvm you have it.
mum: no it's ok you have it.
me: ok -takes sandwich and starts eating-
mum: where are you going?
me: lido.
mum: with which girlfriend?
me: boyfriend la.
mum: which one? tell me leh.
me: i think you know him. xun yu.
mum: oh him again. u see him every week not sian meh?
me: no. we both have no one else to go out with.
mum: oh ya but at least he is handsome. if he's not handsome you go out every week with him also very sian. he's late right?
me: ya we're both late.
mum: i can tell. both of you are very sluggish people. -hands me a bottle of water-
me: -finishes sandwich- thanks
mum: -takes a piece of tissue paper to wipe my mouth-
me: eh don't do this in public leh!
mum: haha i'm doing this because i know you won't wipe your mouth after eating your sandwich and I don't want you to dirty the bottle. I still want to drink from it.
me: ok see you at home. it's going to rain soon you better go to the bus stop. byebye.
mum: byebye.
It was overall rather amusing.
On a separate note, I was just flipping through some personality test results from a couple of years ago and one part of the results stated some careers that I was suited for. Among the short list of occupations was one that caught my eye.
"Social Science Teacher"
That's what I would have become if I'd accepted the MOE offer. Food for thought.
I shall go type my email of declination to MOE in the meantime. But a very interesting thing to come across especially at such a time. Once again, the full blast of irony.
