Shopping List

Who Pools should buy:
Messi
Eto'o
Iniesta
.
.
.

ok let's be more realistic about this.

Who Pools can realistically buy and should be at the top of their shopping list:
Alves
Villa
D.Silva
Simao
Milito
Diego
(but of course if they can acquire Messi or Iniesta or Eto'o, why not?)

Who they should not even think of buying but somehow are at the top of their shopping list:
Forlan (Remember the ManUtd flop? THIS proves it.)
Torres (Come on just let the others fight over him and use it as a decoy to snap up Villa instead)
Trezeguet (He's no longer the feared striker he used to be years ago. And I do mean YEARS)

Who they don't really need but can try buying:
Giuly (He's dropped down the pecking order at Barca)
Xavi (Ditto above)
Any player who supported Pools as a kid
In fact, any player who was not in the list above

Somehow the players I want seem very skewed towards Barca. Must be cuz I'm still missing the brilliant way they played a few seasons ago. Before their disastrous current season when Eto'o got injured, Ronaldinho got outshone by Messi, Iniesta outshone Xavi, Eto'o and Ronaldinho developed a feud and they're doing crazy things like courting Arsene Wenger. Good thing about the Wenger bit though, at least if Wenger goes over Sheila will stop supporting Arsenal and maybe try Liverpool instead. Would be a bonus if Fabregas goes over as well.

Outside the world of football, we're seeing history in the making. No I'm not talking about Federer and his dominance, that's really old news and we've been seeing THAT piece of history in the making for years already. I'm talking about this lad called Lewis Hamilton who has just had the best ever start in a debut F1 season in the whole of F1 history, surpassing the likes of Fangio, Prost and Schumacher. This is one guy to watch. I won't be surprised if he finishes first ahead of Alonso this season and I would very much like to see that. Years after watching F1 without a single driver I feel like supporting, I've found someone to pledge my allegiance to.

Anyway, this is official- you do not pronounce the "T" in "often"! I've been saying "offen" for quite a while in a rather confident manner until I hear quite a lot of people whose English I regard rather highly pronounce an audible "T" sound in the word. So for the record people, listen up- The T in "often" is silent, don't read it!

Finally, some thoughts on growing up.

I guess everyone knows I loathe growing up and I'm not looking forward to it. However, I've decided I don't anymore. I've realised (As Morrie mentioned) there is much to embrace in growing up! It's just how you see it. It came with the discovery that with every year I aged, I found myself appreciating how I have developed more than how I have deteriorated. I find myself liking the older me as compared to the younger one, on careful hindsight. So I have decided to embrace the growing up process and look forward to an older AND better me. The "better" part is crucial though, or it just ruins the whole benefit of growing up.

I guess it's a matter of how to see things. Like what I have since developed as one of my personal philosophies- It's not what they give you that matters but what you gain from it. You can send some guy to the best schools and best personal development courses for years and he can gain nothing more than a few moments of fun from the whole experience. But you can also force some guy to sit under a tree doing nothing for years and he gains enlightenment. So the main thing here is how you are able to derive a meaningful lesson and benefit from everything you get in your life. It's all about attitude, if that was too complex for you.
So learn to appreciate everything you have and make the best of it. Besides making your life much more enjoyable, because you have learnt to see the brighter side of things better, it also maximises the benefit you get from each and every experience in your life.
