The function of this position is to work closely with students to enhance co-curricular life at the College. As the primary advisor for student activities and departmental programs, the incumbent aids in the planning and presentation of college-wide and five-college activities, organizes departmental programs, and serves as a resource to all student organizations. Additional duties include supervising 2 graduate assistants as well as supervision of the accounts of the Associated Students of Pomona College (ASPC) and the sundry organizations of the five colleges. The Assistant Director serves as the financial advisor to student organizations and monitors budgets in conjunction with the ASPC Vice President. The Assistant Director also advises the Committee for Campus Life and Activities (CCLA) - the primary programming board for the Associated Students of Pomona College organized into programming committees including: Annual Events, Films, Themed Parties, Special Events, Live Arts, Table Manners, Off-Campus Events, Budget, etc. CCLA has an annual operating budget in excess of $100,000. Selects, promotes, and oversees planning and facilitation of Smith Campus Center activities program that includes both educational and cultural events and activities as well as large-scale lectures and concerts. Serves as a programming resource on campus by assisting student clubs, organizations and other campus departments with the planning and facilitation of events. Smith Campus Center has an annual programming budget in excess of $13,000. Advises the Metate yearbook student staff, participates in the selection of the yearbook publisher, staff training, monitoring budgets and deadlines, working towards publishing a high-quality fall-delivery book. Advises the ASPC Senate and Budget Committee. Utilizing CYMA software program, maintains up-to-date accounting records for all student organization and departmental accounts; fiscal year open and close; monthly ASPC Financial Statements; check disbursement; state and federal tax returns for a 501-c-3 organization; and provides financial reports as requested. The ASPC annual budget exceeds $350,000 annually, with total revenues approaching $1,000,000. Selects, trains and supervises two Graduate Assistants working in student activities, advising committees of CCLA and planning departmental programs. Selects, promotes, and oversees planning and facilitation of activities program designed to get Pomona students involved in communities in and around Los Angeles. Organizes trips, and accompanies students on the “47 Things Every Sagehen Should Do Before Leaving Pomona College”. Selects, promotes, and oversees planning and facilitation of activities program designed to offer weekly alternative programming to students who seek involvement in non-alcoholic activities on campus. Supervises Late-Night Programming Graduate Assistant who oversees weekly Saturday evening events and works with 2 undergraduate student programming interns. Manages annual Late-Night Programming budget of $15,000. 5-C Activities Committee- Works with Activities Directors from the other 4 Claremont Colleges to plan, promote and implement 5-College events/activities (Turf Dinner, leadership Conference, Volunteer Series, etc.). Manages 5-C Activities Committee sundry account budget (housed at Pomona). Selects, promotes, and oversees planning and facilitation of Smith Campus Center summer activities program designed to provide weekly social, recreational and educational events and activities for Pomona students living and working on campus from May-August. Smith Campus Center has an annual Summer Programming budget of $3,000. Supervises the Smith Campus Center web site and employs a student web manager for design and implementation. Minimum Qualifications - Bachelors degree is required, Masters Degree preferred. Three or more years of professional experience in student activities, student union, or related fields preferred.
