Sac-Anime

Jul 19, 2007 22:33

Before I begin, happy belated B-day to astralblue and onicoursemusha.

Sac-Anime.

I really can't say much, given the fact that I was 2nd-in-command head staffing the game room nearly the entire time and at one point not sleep for 42 hours non-stop. Note that this is indeed my first-official time that I staffed an Anime Convention.

Speakin of the game room, I would like to say that this has been a major improvement from January's Sac-Anime event. It can still be improved greatly, given that Sac-Anime is still new to the Anime Con line-up.

The game room mainly consisted of...
  • Guitar Hero. Though not anime-related, this is a staple.
  • SSBM. There were 2 stations that were SSBM-related.
  • IIDX. Damn right!...though I wished the TV it was on didn't crap out on it.
  • Para Para Paradise. Umm, I don't para at all, but it does feed the needy Para Para freaks.
  • DDR station. Flat Screen HDTV? Check. 2 good Hard Pads? Check. 2 double-stacked Chairs to act as Bars? Check. Screwdriver in case any screws come off? Check. A crapload of people on that station? Check. Speakers? Oops, didn't bring them. XD
  • Wii! No, not my costume (though it was present in the game room), but the actual Wii + 4 controllers + 4 chucks. Of course, people loved to play Rayman. Speakin of Rayman...
...O my fucking god y'all! During my break time, I think y'all made me create yet another Anime Con history once more: CARROT JUICE!! (in a very explicit way).

What I would like to see in the next gaming room (if possible):
  • 2D fighting games, mainly CVS2 or SF3: 3rd Strike. Yes, I don't play fighting games, but it gives players more variety.
  • SSB:B. It isn't out yet, but I can see this kickin ass.
  • Newer XBox360's that won't die out! Pretty much all the XBoxes and XBox360's crapped out on Saturday and Sunday.
  • PS3's with some 3D fighting games.
  • Pokemon Battle Revolution. Yes, I see people bust out their DS's with D/P, so a Pokemon Battle with DS's = Win...
...Come to think of it, this sounds like a good idea!!! Who's down for a Pokemon tournament in January's Sac-Anime?

Speakin of games, here were the results in DDR Tournament on Saturday:
1st: Phil (Striker-Ryu)
2nd: Anthony (Moogle, CA Samurai, Burning Heat)
3rd: Eric (Zerocide)

Also, I wonder if the game room will ever be named "The Big Anime Game Room". It has a good name. :P

One more thing: just in case have been "misunderstood" on the wiimote, I rarely wore it this con due to staffing and wore it ONLY on the Masquerade times. If you saw the wiimote on the Rave, that was definitely Phil. If you saw it on the Dealer's room, it was either Ramon or Mattison. If you saw it in the game room, no one was in it.

COSPLAY CHESS

This was actually quite interesting. Chess with cosplayers. The only gripe would be the fact that the chessboard was so small. I was supposed to be Pawn #6 on the white side, but was then switched as a Black R2 Rook because my costume pretty much crammed 9 (3 x 3) or 16 (4 x 4) board spaces. Oops.

But hey, at least I didn't get eaten in the game, but rather eat 3 pieces in 4 moves and then finished off the King. Rawr!

PRE-JUDGING AND MASQUERADE

Pre-Judging was somewhat new to me, but since I never been to Masquerade competition before, I gotta say that it wasn't as nerve-wrecking as many say it is. Just stay calm, explain your cosplay, and voila.

To be honest, both me (Wiimote) and Craig (DDR Pad) didn't even expect to get an award for Overall Honorable Mention. Mad props Craig, especially since this was our first-ever masquerade performance. Tee hee.

CRITICISM

Okay. Since people may call this the most hated section of this post, guess I have no choice:
  • Some security issue on Friday and Sunday regarding harassment, especially when the place is filled with underaged people. Nuff said.
  • The prize profits for the game tournaments. Okay, so everyone else did profit on this. Okay, that's cool for them. I do not mind if I got paid for the tournament or not...BUT...HOWEVER, the fact that I did NOT get any money from the DDR tournament itself WHILE you kept the profits is absurd! Ann, I ran the entire tournament while you were at the Rave...yet you get all the money because you said you organized the tourney? Seriously, yes, I am unsure if you knew that we totally revamped the rules for a better tourney, but if you ran a tournament and want to get paid for it, you should take responsibility for it, even sacrificing the Rave. I'm not sure if this is a price to pay to be 2nd-in-command, if this is the case, I can contribute my con efforts elsewhere if this occurs again despite being highly respected by pretty much everyone who went to the game room, staff or attendee.
  • Game room being distant from the con. I know we got a big room. Good props to that. However, it wouldn't hurt to have to in the same building as the con so people know where to go.
  • Cosplay Chess having a bigger board. It was quite crammed. Hopefully, next Sac-Anime has a bigger one as mentioned.

That's all for now.

Since I didn't get a chance to take any pictures, here's a photo album of Eurobeat King's:

Anyways, that wraps up Sac-Anime. There's a lot more to say. But I'm dead tired at this moment. O yeah, hope you had a B-Day blast, Craig.

And o yeah, the wiimote costume will no longer be in show until next year due to repairs and Version 3 re-designing. Sorry guys. This is the last con it'll show up for 2007. And I can't make it to Comic-Con this year. :(

ANIME EXPO 2008?
So far, after hearing about the location itself, I will not go. Not only is the hotels like 2 blocks away, but hearing the reputation amongst security itself for a con like this, it ain't worth it. I rather not hear about a stolen and sported Naruto headband for some gang, come up to people and say "Believe it Muthafuckas", and trigger a loaded "Uzi no jutsu".
