anyways the problem my group had was during the masquerade. My friend (who was running the crunchyroll stage) lost his masquerade ticket (in the years past AX has never EVER double checked tickets for any of their big events - at least in my experience) so he didnt have his ticket and the staffers werent letting him into the masquerade. There were PLENTY of seats available but they didnt want him to sit with us, even though we had saved a seat for him. He ended up sneaking his into our row. I think the staffer he was talking to noticed he disappeared and started looking row by row for him. They spent a good 45mins looking for my friend and they finally found him. (Im serious they walked back and forth with flashlights looking for my friend while the masquerade was going being quite a distraction for those trying to watch)
After they found him they wanted to him to leave and my other friend and I went to go talk to these stupid staffers but they didnt want to deal with us anymore and sent us to a manager. after explaining what happened and my friend getting really upset (he was media after all) they finally let us go back to our seats and watch the rest of the show.
But seriously... one person out of a group of 15 lost their ticket, isnt that forgivable? i go to disneyland all the time and when we lose one fast pass ticket they still let the whole group stay together. I thought it was something really stupid to waste their time on.
Im sorry they were complete jerks to you guys! you guys worked hard on your costumes and to be told u cant participate in events is just stupid.
Im my opinion AX has been horrible every other year since Ive been going (since AX 2004) Bad years in my book: 2005, 2007, 2009 - so it was destined to be horrible this year. I heard how awesome AX was last year too bad this year didnt stay that way.
It was nice seeing you, Im sad your DS is broken =( maybe you can make it into a cool DSi.
The biggest problem with these staffers is that they aren't even close to being committed to helping the con, let alone keep a very strong communication link between each other. I bet a lot of these people think it's just like a local con like ALA, MikomiCon, or PMX, and later on they don't realize that AX is a completely different ballgame (hence why I will never staff for AX even before this year). With all that, communication becomes a clusterfuck because it ends up with very inconsistent information or uninformed people who doesn't know how to handle these situations (i.e. they tell you something but another staffer said it's wrong and vice versa). Of course, this confuses everyone a lot.
In terms of the Masquerade, if there are empty seats, they can still come in unless those seats were specifically reserved; they just to behave, assuming the policies in the Masquerade. I remember people coming in to AX 07's Masquerade without ticket, but they got the very far seats.
05, 07, and 09 were the years I went. Sadly, I must have came in the wrong years or I see a cycle of good -> bad -> good -> bad wave cycle.
The DS was broken; we actually were at fault for some of the designs for using way too thin foam. If we remake some of the sides, we can easily transform it to a DSi and add electronic cameras on it so we can actually walk with it while recording footage at the same time interactively. :)
