I'm going to be mature and do a pro's and con's list. I'll do the same for all the uni's and then maybe some sort of choice will be made clearer. Maybe...
Pro's
- Really good uni - top 5 in the country, top for student satisfaction, up there with oxbridge and Warwick.
- Staff are really nice and approachable, and obviously care about the students which is a bonus compared to some uni's I've heard about.
- Accomodation seems reasonable (only saw the good stuff obviously but it's only for a year anyway...)
- It's only half an hour away from the sea
- It's in the countryside so it's pretty
- There seems to be an OK night life - no huge clubs, but a gig venue and nice cheap pub on site and more pubs and places in the town. And do I really need a hundred different clubs when that scene doesn't really attract me that much anymore?
- Good links with businesses - i.e. prospective employers
- The students union an all that are really good as you'd expect, lots of societies and they help you find work and stuff like that.
- I could go on a *free* study abroad semester. providing I somehow manage to speak the language...
Con's
- It's full of posh people*
- It's 3 hours away. If I'm honest, with the best intentions in the world, I don't think me and Dean would survive that. he should only be doing 2 days a week at uni, and me about the same, but we'll both hgave other stuff going on and it'll be expensive and tiring to travel to see each other all the time. And if I'm that far away, I can't help feeling I'll be missing having the time of my life mooning after him and feeling like something's missing most of the time. We said we'd give it a try and he said that if it was what I wanted, he'd make sure it worked. But he can't guarantee that, and I can just imagine how must of a struggle it'll be being so far away, even if it's only for a year. I promised I wouldn't make the decision based on him. But if I like Nottingham as much as Exeter, the fact that it's closer to him will be a factor.
- It's not a city, which really excited me about Manchester and Leeds, but I think that was for the atmosphere, and Exeter has a really nice atmosphere of it's own. Ans, as my mom pointed out, I'll probably end up working in a city, so i may as well take the chance to experience some slower paced life first. And Bristol's only an hour away.
- It'll be expensive to get home all the time. I always thought I'd be close enough that if I had a major emergency and just needed my mom, I'd be able to get to her within a few hours or so. this would require foreward planning and money.
- Exeter's posh so everything is more expensive.
* Ok, I dunno if the posh people is a good or bad thing. In a way this might be good, cause supposedly they're less likely to be in gangs and decide to shoot me, right? Which is why Exeter may be the safest of my uni choices lol. But...aren't posh people all snpbby and annoying? And how are they gonna make me feel when they're on abotu all the money they've got an all the great stuff they have an I'm like, "yeah..." and have no way to relate to that world?
Anyway, that's about it. the trip wasn't too bad. Quality time with my mom was actually good, until she started going on about my dad - hormonal Han doesn't appreciate that. Thoughts and comments are appreciated!!
