I am now in the appropriately named town of Greymouth, still recovering from my cold. Gus and I spent a few days in the small mountain village of Arthur's Pass locked in our sweaty three bed dorm room sleeping our sicknesses off. its almost gone, i swear. instead of going out trekking like tourists are supposed to do, we only ventured out across the road to the only store to buy ice cream (do you know kiwis produce the most and consume the most icecream per capita in the world?). the only highlight was when i interacted with a curious kea visiting the outskirts of the hostel and entertained it with shiny bottle caps and colorful paper. eventually it got annoyed with my antics and angrily knocked over a potted plant before hopping away. took 0 pictures there. but here are some other ones.

The Straw bale house we worked on for a week:
as you can see by the latter picture, im spending less time looking in mirrors. the stay at the straw bale house was difficult because it had no insulation or ceiling, providing little use of the fireplace, very little electricity to read by, and a small asian toilet that was very tricky to use in the middle of the night when it was below freezing and there was no light. we learned awesome new skills though, and it was definately a unique experience.
