Hello Journal,
I'm writing from a little tourist town in the south island of New Zealand called Kaikoura. We have been staying here the last week with a nice family working on their organic farms. The last place we had been staying at was not so nice, however. It was an eco-tourism wilderness park and we were taking care of it while the owner was away. When he got back, he was really rude and ordering us around so I took it upon myself to have a screaming fight with him, and after that we definately had to leave. unfortunate, because the place was really beautiful and we were planning to stay there for a while, but it was good to get away from that son of a bitch.
There has been so much going on that I can't fully describe everything. Everything like fashion and technology is about ten years behind. We scoured towns looking for a firewire and no one knew what it was. Its incredible to remember how slow dial up internet is. The food here is mostly terrible and expensive. Their idea of spaghetti is that which comes in a can, and their idea of tomato sauce is ketchup, which comes at 50 cents per pack. For a country that exports so much fresh food worldwide, its suprising how much canned fruit it consumes. Generally, everyone survives on a meat and potatoes diet, so those things are good. Oh and beer is good too.
The hostels are pretty much filled to the brim with drunken brits here to watch rugby, but the locals and the landscape have been so beautiful.
