Hello, I thought I'd make a quick post to talk about Kamenashi's recent Anan appearance. I've seen that people have been having issues in it, mainly because of Kamenashi's look in the magazine, but also because many non-Japanese speaking fans are confused about the theme of his photoshoot - make-up, or gender identity?

We'll look at the theme of gender identity first. I think the theme of gender identity cropped up by a fan comment, which was translated from Japanese to English and then believed to be a caption from the magazine. Many people then thought that Anan were trying to make Kamenashi look like a girl, which led to negative comments about him not looking like a girl, or not looking beautiful as a girl (or as a guy either, as random trolls liked to point out). I think most of the drama came from this issue.

When we look into the translation of this, we find out that the theme was about make-up. Kamenashi was asked about his opinions on make-up, on both men and women. Therefore, his make-up was not about gender identity, but about artistic expression. The front cover of Anan is a piece of art. Some people don't appreciate art, others don't appreciate certain types of art, but it is art nonetheless.

I personally loved the photoshoot. It was unusual, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't good. The translation gives the reader more of an insight into Kamenashi's opinions, and reminds us how thin his eyebrows are.
