It was 12:00am and Jaejoong was more than exhausted; mentally and physically. He'd been on a mission for the past three days and really missed his bed. The assignment was simple enough, eliminate  three of the ambassadors heading for the peace conference. They were planning on voting against the new proposition on disarming the ballistic missiles that several countries had, and his boss wanted them out of the picture, “for the betterment of society,” he said like always. Somehow he managed to complete the task, but it was complicated having to find where they each were, getting through their security and then completing the job as cleanly as possible.

He prefers to do things from afar, using his favorite sniper rifle, but for this mission he had to sneak into each of their rooms and do it with his own hands. Shutting the door, he slides down it, letting gravity take hold of his body.

Jaejoong wasn't weak. He had been doing this for too long and it shouldn't have any effect on him. Yet as his body shook with sobs he realized that it did. All of his assignments since he was younger have required him to finish the job from a distance. Seeing their faces contorted in fear and shock was something he wasn't prepared for.

Lately there has been a lot of things he wasn't prepared for. Taking a moment to escape into the rapture of his memories, Jaejoong recalls when his lover, Changmin had proposed to him. It was just a few weeks ago and his life, until recently, had been filled with bubbly feelings of joy, an indescribable feeling of happiness, and the hope that maybe, just maybe he could leave this life behind and start a new one.  Shaking his head bitterly he remembered that his boss had different plans apparently.

Looking over at the clock he remembers his latest assignment. 12:30am....he should be asleep by now. Drying his tears he walks through their shared apartment. He looks all around for the guns that he stashed away but they're all missing. Even the one hidden within the wall.

His instincts told him to be worried, but for some reason he wasn't. Maybe he had taken them all to be cleaned and forgot, maybe it was a sign from whatever deity existed above that he didn't have to go through with this. Being too tired to actually care he retreated to the room him and Changmin shared.

When he opened the door a lot of things changed, and looking back, he probably would have been better off being killed on his last assignment. Standing in the doorway, he was greeted with a gun nozzle pressed against his forehead. He was shocked, not so much at the situation as he's been through worse, but at the fact that his lover of three years was holding it.

Through his peripheral vision he saw that the bed was covered with all his guns. “Well I guess that explains that...” he thinks. Looking back at his lover he sees that he's crying.
“How long,” his lover asked, sobs evident in his voice.

“How long what?” He replied. The situation itself gave him the answer but he needed to hear it to make it real. Despite everything, he so desperately wished that Changmin wasn't his assigned target and that he in turn wasn't his. The question, asked in foolishness, hung in the air before met with a response.

“How long were you planning to wait before you killed me....”

“I could ask you the same question.”

After that there were no more words. After reaching a silent agreement a chaste kiss was pressed upon trembling lips. Eyes that had seen too much closed for the last time. Two hearts that beat for one another stopped, hoping to be reunited again.
