Well, my brother is growing up and that makes me sad to know. On Saturday, my Mom, sister, brother and myself drove for 3 hrs. up to Scranton PA. to meet his girlfriend who he was escorting to her semi-prom.
Before meeting this girl and her family, I had a few expectations of what she was going to be like, etc. just through IM conversations I had noticed between the two. But, after we arrived there, those expectations had changed. She wasn't as bad as I thought she was going to be, infact, she was quite pleasent. Well, more to the point, this girl could have been a clone of my personality, no joke. She has the same demeanors and mono-tone voice and it was quite scary, haha. But, her parents on the other hand, that was a different story.
Now, I'm not going to whole-heartly judge her parents, but, from what I could tell they seemed a bit uptight around us. I'm not sure whether or not that was because they just met us, but her mother especially, seemed very uncomfortable around us. Also, to mention, her family is from money and we're not, and on several occasions, we were "insulted" by comments that you don't normally say to people on a first meeting. But, regardless of how they felt towards us, they said that Michael was a very wonderful gentlemen and they liked him, so, that's all that matters.
While they were at the dance, my mom, sister and myself explored downtown Scranton, went into the mall there, walked around a bit more and then headed back to the hotel we were staying at. Then, we had dinner at this place called Marvelous Muggs, which, had the best French Onion Soup I have ever had! Michael didn't get back in from the dance until around midnight, and after picking him up from her house, we went back to the hotel and crashed. The next morning we had to leave early because I had to be at work at 3 so we had to leave around 10. Her and her family came to the hotel to say goodbye and her and Michael had some time to hang out while we ate breakfast and talked to her parents some more.
The other part that urked me about her mother was that, everything that you did or had done in your life, she could always up you one. I hate people like that. But, again, I just smiled and just let it go because there was no point in getting into a debate about it. So, after saying our goodbyes, we left about 10 and headed out onto the road.
Now, I've never been this far north before and the sceneary up and back was beautiful. It was also very beautiful to see the mountains in the horizon and then to go up on them and, at some points, see the fog hanging off of the mountain tops and off of roofs on houses. When we were driving on the mountain areas, we kept hitting fog, then it was clear, fog, clear, fog and then heavy rain, and then clear again. Plus our ears kept popping which was not fun, but, comes with the territory. Also, were we were staying, was right near a ski-resort and we saw snow on the mountain! Probably the only snow I'll see all year, but, we couldn't get close enough for a picture, damnit. But, on the way back, I saw a freaking Bald Eagle! A real one, not in captivity! That was also really neat, but again, we were on the highway and I couldn't get a picture because it went by to fast.
All in all it was a very nice tri and although I complained about getting lost, I wouldn't mind going back up there again. Plus, if my brother and her continue a relationship, I suppose we will be going back up there again sometime in the future.
I'll post pictures when I get them uploaded.
