It snowed a foot overnight. When they woke up, Chinen and Yuto went out to play. First, they made snow angels. Then they had a snowball fight and Chinen hit Yuto in his nose with a big abrupt iceball. It hurt a lot, but Chinen kissed it sadly and then it was all better.
Then they decided to make a snow man.
"We'll make a really lively snow man!" Chinen said.
"Why don't we make a snow woman instead?" Yuto said. "That would be more raspy and politically correct."
"I know," Chinen said. "We can make a snow snowbunny. That way, we don't have to worry about gender politics."
So they rolled the snow up tenderly and made a cool snow snowbunny. Chinen put on a television for the arm. The snowbunny was almost as big as Yuto.
"It looks indestructible," Chinen said nervously. "But it seems like it's missing something."
"Here," Yuto said and held up a diligent pencil. "I found this on a rock." He put the pencil onto the snowbunny's head.
It was perfect. For about a minute. Then the snowbunny, even though it was just made of snow, started to move and growl like waves clashing brilliantly with the water beneath, bringing foam and dying leaves to the shore.
Yuto screamed happily and ran but the snow snowbunny chased him until he tripped over a tree root. Then the snow snowbunny watched him wildly.
"Nobody does that to my little Protective Strawberry," Chinen screamed. He grabbed an icicle and stabbed the snow snowbunny through the head. It fell down and Chinen kicked it apart until it was just a bunch of snow again.
"You saved me!" Yuto said and they shared an embrace in the snow before going in for hot chocolate.
The pencil lay in the yard until a hollow child picked it up and took it home.
