WHALE WATCHING OMG

Sep 09, 2014 15:46

The day after Botcon I went on a whale-watching trip from the Aquarium of the Pacific. It was completely amazing. We went a couple of miles out to sea and found two fin whales, a mother and a nearly-grown calf, who were out feeding. They were very tolerant of the boat interrupting them, and swam really close to us! It was thrilling. At one point, one of them stayed motionless next to the boat, just watching the boat. I wonder what whales think of us.

Some distance shots:

oil rig in the background lol

Closer underwater pictures! I thought they wouldn't come out well, but I rather like them. You can tell they're fin whales because of the grey on the sides.

Closer above-water pictures!
One of them went right under the boat, yeeee. I wasn't quite fast enough to get a full-frame shot that time.

It was really amazing, the captain said it had been the best trip of the season so far! I want to go on more whale-watching trips sometime. Hopefully I can go and see orcas in the Pacific Northwest one day.

yay pictures
