Ode to the truth

So, to him I say "Thank you"
for showing me my place
and giving me a little something
for only me to taste.

Surely this is not routine
this little act you do.
The wooing and the courting
Your salty-saccharine coo

Promising silently with looks
and smiles, but you
knowest your earnest intention
as the hunters often do.

Leading ever forward
to his modest piece of land
The two may sit and talk a while
enjoying where they stand.

Time, she moves in haste
even when I wish her slow
and moments they are fleeting
in this endless ebb and bow.

Still this morning I awoke
reminded of this boy
Self proclaimed and little more
Adult toddler and his toy

I once was told a secret
to know the true heart of a man
for daily you can see him
live and be with him, you can

Yet still, he'll keep within him
the purest deepest truth
until the very moment, that fleeting tock
when you push him into a volcano.

For surely then you will see;
his face must tell the truth
in those last few moments, his final decent
Only the truest nature will come through.

So I thanked that man as he plummeted down
Because he could not deny
the fact that I was wrong to think
I'd caught him in a lie.
