It is cancer. Vet said 1-3 months. The only other option is $500 worth of tests to see if it spread, then amputating ($1,000) then chemo (no clue how much but chemo is horribly painful) to give him maybe to 10 or 12. He's a big dog, already 8, and not the healthiest thing. So the pain and money to make him last maybe a few years. So my mom settled on getting him dog pain killers each day, kind of expensive but she wants him to be as comfortable as possible as long as possible.
