here.
The sound of footsteps starting to quiet down was signal that their three other band mates had already left the room, and that it was only him and Yune inside. Aoi didn’t break his gaze from outside the window until he felt the couch shift a bit. He willed himself to just observe the scenery for a bit more (not just yet, please) but Yune scooted closer and placed a hand in his knee, and there was nothing he wanted to do more but melt.
“Hey, look at me,” came the calm voice, and Aoi finally turned.
“Do you really have to go?” The question was finally thrown, and Aoi could see how Yune’s look turned from composed to sombre. Yune thought Aoi understood his reasons. Aoi thought he did too, and perhaps this was just selfishness taking over. It wouldn’t be fair to say that Aoi loved Yune more than Yune loved him, because that was a scathing lie. It was just hard to admit that there were far stronger things than the bond that they had, but it was the truth. There was really no need for any of them to dismiss that fact - the both of them are tough and someday, hopefully, they’d understand the meaning to all of these.
But just this once, Aoi wanted to cover his ears and close his eyes.
Yune’s comforting hand on Aoi’s knee was gone, but then intertwined with his calloused fingers. Thinking that Aoi looked like he was about to cry, Yune drew a smile on his face. Aoi sniffled a bit and the smile on the drummer’s lips extended to a small laugh, at least breaking the heavy air around them. Aoi laughed with him too.
Eventually the laughter died down and they were back to their original expressions - Yune being silent and cool while Aoi, silently pleading. Truth was, Yune found it hard, so hard to look into Aoi’s eyes, because the longer he stared into them the more his will to go faltered. But he needed to go, he needed to grow, and while he didn’t want to say that Aoi was one of the reasons why he couldn’t (he’d just deny that anyway), that was the case. There would always be that point in your life where you’d have to spread your wings and fly, and that point had already come for Yune. The band was young and still undiscovered anyway, and there wouldn’t be any problems if he took off at this moment. He did wish them the best, though.
With a small sigh passing his lips, Yune loosened his grip on the other man’s hand and Aoi knew that this was finally it. Don’t cry, baby please don’t cry, he read that from Yune’s eyes, and resolved himself not to shed any tears. If he wasn’t allowed to cry then he would just have to give Yune the tightest embrace he could give, in it thrown all his frustrations, confusions, care, and so much love. The tingly feeling in his eyes was hard to battle but Aoi won at least, for the price of a bruised lower lip. Finally they let go of each other.
“Just promise me… promise us you’ll find somebody to replace your position,” Aoi quietly said, cupping the other man’s cheek.
Yune nodded silently and brushed the stray hairs in front of Aoi’s face. He then leaned forward, giving Aoi’s plump lips the sweetest, softest, gentlest kiss he could ever give. Please be strong for me too, baby.
Aoi heeded Yune’s request. But once the couch shifted again and the door was closed, he knew he wouldn’t see that man that he loved ever again.
“Aoi!”
Aoi stopped in his tracks, waiting for the owner of that voice to come closer, curious as to what message he was to bring.
“Hey Aoi, I think we got a new drummer now! Ruki said there was this guy he knew from somewhere, and he’s interested to fill the drummer position. But you know I think it’s actually Yune who found the dude since they were acquainted too, he certainly knows how to keep a promise, huh? Even if he isn’t keeping touch with us anymore he still…”
As Reita continued talking, Aoi just listened to him silently, with a small smile spreading onto those pierced lips.
