Treasures in Jars of Clay

So here's my 5 choices for NTU:
1. NIE Edu (arts)
2. ADM
3. English
4. Communication Studies
5. Sociology

Hu Lao Shi was like, *translates literally* "So you iron heart want to teach ah?"

Teaching at PL kinda made me realise how much I love teaching art. I love the kids, I love it when they're happy, when they learn and understand, even if it means sleepless nights making sure that tomorrow is as perfect as it can be. It's a perfect workaholic's job - and I'm only just an intern. Plus, I get to use all the awesome stuff (MY OWN KILN! okay I share it with Paulyne. Still...) Haha.

It also made me realise how immature I was in AC (hahaha after so  many arguments with my mum on  "I know what I'm doing".) Going to Goldsmiths for a fine arts degree, of course, seemed to be ideal and awesome, yet I knew that, amidst all the quarrellng, some part of me didn't want to go there at all. At the end of the day, I realise I'm really not ready to go overseas to study. (Yes, mother is always right)

I think the pressure at AC to go overseas is unreasonably great - teachers make it seem such a huge deal, classmates target nothing lower than a cambridge education, seniors speak of amazing experiences overseas. And the pressure at AC to conform is so great, that, inevitably, you find yourself wanting to measure up to your friends in terms of, even, the rank of the school you go to. It's different from good, healthy competition that pushes students to strive for the best education they can get. It's brainless, banal shopping for  "brand names" - regardless of what the programme is even like. It's the kind of immaturity that lands people in Cambridge to study things like art history.

I guess it's because many AC seniors have moved on to professional, executive jobs that makes them someone big, or someone special, or someone that earns truckloads of money. Careers like that delude people - they ruin aspirations, such that everyone's dream becomes cookie-cuttered. And it's disgusting. It makes everyone faceless.
