Coloring tutorial #1~ Kaoru

Apr 22, 2009 20:06

Hey guys =D so no requests for tutorials this time xD but no matter, I saw that some of you really liked some colorings so I'm writing those tuts just because ♥ and 'cause I feel like writing some lol.

Okay, here goes~

Go from
to

Made in Photoshop CS, uses Selective Coloring.

Lately I've been using almost the same techniques in all my colorings, some I learned from other people tuts, but the thing is you just gotta experiment yourself and go crazy xD not follow everything exactly, though some tricks and stuff it's okay, but as I said experiment and try new things and remember that you have to variate stuff since images are not the same and don't have the exact same colors.

Oh and if you wanna request another coloring, you can still do so in my last icon batch ^^.

1.- First of all get your base ready. Crop, sharpen, resize, idk ready it however you like lol.
2.-Well you've seen my base, it's actually really great the way it is but I think we can brighten it up nicely and make it look more interesting.
So duplicate your base (Ctrl+J) and it to Soft Light at 50% oppacity, now go to Filter > Gaussian Blur and set the value to around 1 - 3, whatever works best for your base ^^.
3.-Now make a new Curves adjustment layer to fix up the contrast.
I used these values:
RGB
Input: 46
Output: 50

Input: 176
Outpu7: 196

Meaning I have a curve with two dots xD
4.-Make a new Selective Coloring layer with these values:
Reds: -65 0 +65 +65
Yellows: 0 0 -85 0
Neutrals 0 -32 -40 +7
5.- Now it's time for color layers yay! /o/
Make a new layer and fill it with #540000 set it to Exclusion at 50%
6.-Make a new layer and fill it with #FFD0D0 set it to Soft Light at 45%
7.-Now duplicate your base, bring it all the way to the top and set it to Soft Light at 63%
8.-To finish it up, let's use some light textures, which btw can make icons look really pretty, so it's also good to try different ones and experiment with'em ^^.
Paste this texture by soaked and set it on Screen, adjust the oppacity to your liking, move it to your liking and erease some parts if neccesary. Repeat this step, only this time using this texture also by soaked.

That's it, you're done ^^. Hope you find this helpful ♥
