Musical Tree and Too Much Coffee...

Coffee Count:...About 13 or so...

I have a bunch of random topics to talk about tonight, so I thought I'd just hop in. First off, I really need to get off this coffee shit. I'm fucking tweaking out like hell and I didn't notice it until just now. Turns out the reason I'm so damn shaky is because of all the damn caffiene I consume on a daily basis, but, you know what? I'm sticking with my addictions. Recently I've read a book called "Beautiful Boy" by David Sheff that's a memoir about his son's addiction to crystal meth. In the book, he talks about how a study was done that showed addicts and former addicts' brains are constantly telling them that they are in pain. Thus, addicts always need something to dull the pain even if it's not physical. It's always there no matter what. After pondering that thought, it makes perfect sense. I can't have cocaine anymore, so I need something to be addicted to aka: coffee and cigarettes. That's basically the quick summary since I'm totally wired and can't seem to slow down. Sorry if it's confusing.

Next, for some odd reason I was thinking about all the music I've been listening to and have listened to, so I thought it'd be fun to do a nice little back story on it all. Yes, it is completely pointless and unneeded, but I don't care. *sips large Dunkin' Donuts coffee* And here we go...

I listed to a lot of oldies music growing up. Mostly, it was all stuff from the '50s and '60s with my grandparents. My dad brought the '70s and '80s hard rock and my mom brought '80s pop into the mix. So, even as a nine-year-old, I knew more about Janis Joplin, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, ABBA, Culture Club, and Elvis Preseley than all of the kids in my school knew about all of the popular bands of the time put together. Since I was raised to like every type of music, it helped me branch out into lesser known styles of music such as Southern Rock. I also became a big lover of Jazz and Blues. Along with that, I listened to grunge and punk. After coming to the painful realization that nearly all of my musical idols were dead or retired, I decided that I needed to find current ones that fit the bill. I fell completely in love with Bo Bice, Norah Jones, and other singers like them.

Then, for some unknown crazy reason, my musical taste took a complete 180 and I turned to darker, softer music. I found HIM (thank God) and they threw me up north to Finland. After finding a shit load of Finnish bands (HIM, Negative, The Rasmus, The 69 Eyes, Apocalyptica, Carmen Grey, Incredible Nothing, Uniklubi, Apulanta, etc), I quickly added more punk/rock bands like My Chemical Romance, The Used, cKy, Nirvana (even though I always listened to them), Bloodhound Gang, Dope, Wednesday 13, Murderdolls, London After Midnight, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Misfits.

Lastly, and possibly my weirdest musical love, is classical and opera. I adore Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Verdi, etc as well as many opera singers. I was looking at my iPod and realized that I may have one of the most varied ones ever. I literally like everything there is to like. And I'm sure if more musical styles come out I will most likely adore them. Thank God I'm a music major...

Neurotically Yours,
Play Dead
