Continuing where I left off from a private entry I was typing (I stopped to shelf-read the Folklore), Summer Rec is working out this year. As an end of the year gift, I decided to give myself the task of creating a photo montage of the girls. I found this FANTASTIC program called ProShow Gold. I downloaded the trial version off the site and used a keygen that I got off a torrent to "register" myself under the name "Amanda Weintraub." The kids loved the Sean Kingston song, "Fire Burning," so I'm going to use that as the background music to the slides. I'll burn a copy for each girl and my assistant counselor, Joanna, said she'll buy candy and bags to put everything in. I'm actually really looking forward to playing around with the program and seeing what I can do with it.
My other job at the IMC has been working out quite well. Though the pay is average, I really enjoy working in the library. The staff are great people, not crazy or snooty for the most part. This part of the library really doesn't get that much action, especially during the summer. I'm always finding myself jobs to do while alternating being up here at the front desk (where I am now). I can't and don't want to spend the whole time I'm here up at the desk. It's not a good work ethic to sit on your ass all day, even though everything's really chill here.
There's really only one other full time student besides myself working here at the moment. His name is Liam and he's been here for I think two years now, thus he really knows the ins-and-outs of the library itself. I had to switch my hours at the IMC to mid-afternoon until the evening because in the morning I now work Rec. I thought I would really dislike the later hours, but it's quite the opposite. Liam is good company and talking with him throughout my shift makes the time go much quicker. Also, there's much fewer staff on during the later hours, so it's much more peaceful-like.
I definitely plan on working here during the semester. I could make a bit more money elsewhere, but I'm not giving up a job that I don't dread going to. I don't see the point of suffering somewhere for just a bit more cash. To me, it's not worth it.
My week is quite long though. Or more like the days are. I wake up at 6:45am in order to get to Mandalay by 9:15 and I work there until about 1pm. Kids take a lot of energy to entertain, to say the least. I come home and eat lunch before leaving my house about 1:45pm and get to Post in order to be on time for my 2:30 - 7:00pm shift. I get home between 7:30 - 7:40pm and eat dinner, shower, and prepare for the next day. Doing anything Tues - Thurs is very difficult for me because I have to go to bed early and I get home decently late (and by the time I'm done eating etc). And not let's forget that I'm usually falling asleep between 10pm - 11pm.
I love "Bowling Mondays." I only work at Rec on Mondays, my group always has bowling on Mondays---thus giving the kids something to do in an nice, cool building, and Wantagh Lanes is much closer to my house than Mandalay. To make a good thing even better, the pick up time is 12pm with bowling, instead of the normal 12:30. And then I get to go home and enjoy the rest of my day! I <3 Mondays.
At least it's Thursday. This week went by much quicker than I thought it would. I have Rob's Annual Block Party this weekend that I'm very much looking forward to. Plus...it doesn't hurt to mention this again...but DOUBLE PAY CHECKS!!!!
I'm so hungry though. I forgot to grab a snack to bring with me to the IMC today and I'm suffering the consequences of that. I walked to Hillwood yesterday to buy a Black and White Cookie, but I hate always wasting perfectly good money on food that I should have brought from home.
