Is it true that testing for Down's Syndrome in the first trimester is a requirement? Anyone know?

I highly doubt it. This article uses language that the doctor "may suggest" testing: http://children.webmd.com/tc/down-syndrome-topic-overview

I don't even think AIDS or drug tests are required of pregnant women.

Thanks for that. I googled it but couldn't find anything for certain. My all-consumed pregnant friend Lauren said that she just had the test and it was a requirement. That doesn't sound right to me.

i don't think the test is 100%. It just gives you a percentage of how likely it is for your child to have downs

Right, they give you percentages. My other friend went through a terrible time with testing, but I thought it was elective and not mandatory.

i honestly can't remember if it was mandatory. I was young when I was pregnant and probably just did whatever test they recommended

My sister-in-law tested and they said her baby did. She was a mess until they told her 2 weeks later they were wrong.
