CALLIE

I woke to the sound of knocking at my bedroom door. I immediately felt Erica’s hot breathe against my neck. Her blonde locks spread over my pillow. She was as close to me as physically possible. It brought a smile to my face knowing that even in her sleep she wanted to be close to me. “Come in.” I said quietly hoping not to wake Erica.

My brother pushed the door open and began to enter when he noticed Erica. “Sorry Callie, I didn’t realize you had company.” I smiled. “It’s okay. She’s just asleep.” I said as I brushed her blonde hair from her eyes. Doug stood hesitant at the door. “Is everything okay?” His nervousness didn’t dissipate. “Yeah, it’s just going to take a little getting used to. You know…” I smiled. “yeah, I know. Can I talk to you later please?” He nodded and as he was leaving I asked him to ask the maids to arrange an appointment for out family therapist. He said he would let the maids know and left.

I kissed Erica lightly on the forehead. “hmmm, I could get used to this.” I smiled when I heard her voice. “Me too.” She pressed a kiss to my neck. “Come on, we should get up.” I heard another knock at the door and once again I told them to enter. It was Maria, our maid.

“Ma’am, you’re appointment at Dr. Paparatis is at 11am.” “okay, thanks Maria. And please it’s Callie.” She smiled. “Okay, will there be anything else?” “Yes, Maria. If you could please bring Erica’s bags in here.” “Yes, ma’… Callie.” I smiled as she left.

ERICA

Minutes later my bags were in our room. Callie and I walked hand in hand down to the dining room for breakfast. Douglas, Annabelle and Callie’s mother were already there. I took a seat next to Callie. Minutes later bacon, eggs, hash browns and fried tomato thins were placed in front of me. I made small talk with Mrs. Torres. “This is a lovely home you have here Mrs. Torres.” She started telling me about the history of the house. It had been in the family since the 1600’s. It had been renovated numerous occasions since then.

CALLIE

As Erica and my mother talked I excused myself and I went in search off my brother. I found him in his bedroom studying. “Hey.” I stood in the doorway. He looked up at me and smiled. “hey, Cal.” I walk in and sit on his bed. “I’m sorry I couldn’t come to see you in Seattle.” He tells me, smiling apologetically. “It’s okay. You had studying; I understand what that’s like.” I smile faintly. “How have you been?” He asks me. “I’m okay. I’ve been better but I’m getting there. Erica has been amazing, even when I screwed everything up and gave her a million reasons to never speak to me again.” ‘What did you do? I mean, it couldn’t possible have been your entire fault.” I smiled, my big brother always tried to stand up for me but I knew that I was in the wrong this time. “Well, I avoided her when I realized I had feelings for her, slept with Seattle’s manwhore to prove my heterosexuality, kissed her then avoided her again for two weeks, left her crying in bed after she had a revelation that she was gay, cheated on her with Sloan and then sided with Izzie Stevens, the bitch who ended my marriage. And that’s just the start.” He looked surprised but I couldn’t blame him. I couldn’t believe what I had done. “Wow, I’m suddenly seeing her in a new light. She sounds like an amazing woman Callie. I must say I am surprised you’re with a woman. How long have you been gay for?”
If there was one word I hated the most, it was GAY. I didn’t know what I was and I didn’t want to be put in a box and labeled. “I’m not gay. I… I don’t know what I am. I mean that was the thing that ended my relationship with Erica in the first place. I was so scared to be labeled that I almost lost her, now I know that it doesn’t matter whether I label myself gay or not. I know that she loves me anyway. And I love her and if that makes me gay then so be it. She’s my world and I never want to lose her again.”
He pulled me into a hug. “I’m happy for you, Cal.”

ANNABELLE

Erica and my mother had been talking for quite a while and I was wondering where Callie had got to. Erica and mum had been talking for quite some time. “Please call me, Georgia.” My mother had told Erica. She hated being referred to as Mrs. Torres by family and it was becoming clearer and clearer that Erica was definitely part of our family. They were getting on great before Erica addressed me. “Annabelle, you must have some great stories about Callie.” I smiled at her and laughed. “I sure do. You should have seen her during her younger years. She sure was rebellious. I remember when she was 17 years old. She had started rebelling so she looked like a Latina Goth. Dark make-up complete with her dark clothes. She was climbing out of the window asking for me to cover for her. I didn’t know where she was going but I assumed she was up to no good.” Callie had reentered the kitchen. “No, don’t tell that story. I was always a good kid; I just had that one night.” I started laughing. “yeah, you could say that.” Erica’s gaze was falling from me to Callie. She quickly relocked her eyes on me. “Ohh, please continue.” “Well, I managed to keep mum and dad out of her room the whole night. Saying that she was studying for some big exam she had.” Mum quickly joined. “Yeah, unfortunately Callie got in some trouble.”
