Chapter Twenty-Six
(Callie’s POV)
The next few weeks past quickly and I continued to get bigger and bigger. Erica and I discussed that she would take 6 months leave and I would take a year of maternity leave. My maternity leave would start when I’m 7 months pregnant and I’ll return to work when the babies are 10 months old. Erica would take 6 months off starting two weeks before the babies due date as twins would usually arrive early. My parents had offered to fly down to help us if we needed it which I was grateful for but I had declined the offer knowing that Erica and I would be able to cope.
(Erica’s POV)
Callie and I climbed into the car. We were on our way to look at an amazing apartment we had seen on the internet. This apartment had looked absolutely perfect on the webpage. It was big, and had enough rooms for the family that we are creating. It was on the expensive side, being a penthouse apartment but Callie really wanted to see it, so I agreed.
The real-estate agent explained about the feature of that the hotel offered to owners of the apartments. Free Day Care facilities was (were) one of the multiple things I loved about this place. When Callie and I were let into the apartment, I could only look at it in awe. It was amazing. Floor to ceiling windows showed the amazing view, which over looked a canal. The windows were in the family room and Erica and I walked into it hand in hand.
There was a huge balcony. We opened the doors and walked outside. There was a huge decking, which would be perfect for the kids to play on.
The kitchen was connected to the family room. There was a hallway to the right of the kitchen, which lead to the Master Bedroom. Callie smiled at me and squeezed my hand as we walked inside. It had two amazing walk in wardrobes as well as a gorgeous ensuite, with a huge spa. Callie and I could have a good time in there. The Master Bedroom also had floor to ceiling windows so that you could see the water view from the bedroom. On the same hallway came another bedroom, which I thought would be perfect for the nursery.
There were two more bedrooms connected to the rear of the house and another bathroom between them. This apartment was nice and modern and definitely what we’d been looking for but I was reluctant to buy it. It was pretty expensive and I didn’t know if we were willing to pay that much.
“Aww, Erica. Can’t you imagine having the two basinets over there.” She pointed to the other side of the room. “And the changing table and everything. Erica this, this is perfect.” She beamed at me.
“Cal, isn’t this a little more than we want to spend?”
Her smile faltered. “But Erica it’s perfect for us. I have a lot of money at my disposal and normally I wouldn’t take it but I want this, I want to build our family here.” She smiled at me and squeezed my hand.
“Okay, let’s make an offer.”
(Callie’s POV)
A month later and I am unpacking the last of Erica and my stuff. I feel long arms wrap around my waist. I smiled and leaned into her embrace. She pressed kisses to my neck, and then I felt it, my baby kicking.
“Erica, oh my god. Erica.” I turned around in her arms and she looked at me surprised. I grabbed her hand and pressed it to my belly. “One of the babies is kicking.” She moved her hand around on my stomach; I placed my hand over hers and guided it to the area I felt the baby kick only moments before.
“Oh my god. Our baby, it’s kicking.” She said and I felt one of the babies kicking. She looked at my stomach in awe, I could see the love radiating off her.
“I love you.” I told her.
She smiled at me. “I love you too, and I love our babies too.” She said as she spoke to my stomach. “I’m so glad that we are here, that you and I have made it this far. Thank you so much, I love you.” A tear fell from my eye.
If anyone had of told me a year ago, that I would be here, expecting twins with a woman I love, I would have told them they were crazy. But here I was, Erica was down on her knees talking to our babies. “You are amazing.” I said running my fingers through her hair. She smiled and stood placing a gentle kiss on my lips.
“You are pretty great too.”
