You know how I have that 'are you watching chocomimi yet?' tag I use for ChocoMimi posts? I hope the answer is 'yes'; this'll make a lot more sense that way. ^.^;
Title: Sick Day
Pairing: Kido YuyaxUsui Masahiro (ChocoMimi cast lololol-- *shot*)
Rating: PG...ish?
Summary/Blahblahblah: I'm trying to summarize this and coming up with nothing. It basically amounts to a walk to the front door and back again. I started writing this the day Usui posted
this to his blog; it's not so much inspired by that as by a conversation that was inspired by that. (Nika knows what I mean.) Also Kido's characterisation is based entirely on him-as-Andrew in ChocoMimi. COME ON, CUBE INC, GIVE HIM A BLOG SO I DON'T HAVE TO MAKE WILD UNFOUNDED JUDGEMENT CALLS ON THIS STUFF.
Sick Day
"I guess the good thing about school uniforms is that no one notices when you wear the same thing two days in a row," Kido observed from where he lounged on his bed, watching Usui fidget in the confines of his uniform and check his hair in the mirror on the back of the door.
"Look, you know I never mind spending the night," Usui sighed, glancing over his shoulder and letting his features fall into a cute pout. (Seto-senpai and Tomo-senpai had been coaching him in the use of their set of foolproof adorable expressions, guaranteed to get whatever he wanted from whomever he wanted it from. He was proving to be a quick study.) "But you're going to have to start giving me more warning than 'Hey, yer following me home'."
Kido rolled his eyes. "Where'd you learn Kansai-ben? 'Cause that sucked."
Usui sighed quietly, smoothing his slightly rumpled shirt, fingering a cool button pensively. He plucked at his sleeve and frowned. "Tch. Unsanitary, that's what this is."
"Jeez, someone's not a morning person," Kido observed dryly, swinging his pyjama-clad legs over the edge of the bed. "I know, I know, it took me this long to notice?" He offered a wry smile to soften the sentiment.
Usui smiled wanly and yawned before turning his attention to his tie. "So what about you?" He paused. "School, I mean. You're not exactly... dressed."
Kido smothered his laughter quickly. "Go on, pretend you mind." He kicked his legs back up on the bed and stretched lazily. "I don't think I'll be going in today." He gave a weak and obviously fake cough. "I think I might be getting sick."
Usui smiled wryly, shrugging his uniform blazer on with a chuckle. "Sick in the head, maybe." He brushed at the blazer's sleeves with his hands and grimaced melodramatically.
"I am intensely hurt by your lack of concern," Kido informed him, though his tone indicated otherwise. "However, I am prepared to forgive you on the grounds that you're cute when you're snarky. Hey, if you're going to be such a baby about the whole uniform thing, why don't you just wear mine?"
Usui paused before turning to face Kido fully. He leaned back against the mirror-backed door, folded his arms, and allowed a smile to settle on his features. "Do you really think no one would notice if I wore a uniform from a different school?"
Kido shrugged and grinned. "Who knows? Maybe people at your school aren't that bright. I mean, it's not like we're talking about my school or something--"
Usui drew a dramatic gasp of mock indignation and glanced about quickly before stooping to pick up a balled sock, which he promptly threw at Kido as hard as he could. "How dare you!"
Being a sock, it didn't do much damage, but Kido squawked with outrage all the same. "You threw my own dirty sock at me!" he cried fighting to keep a straight face. "You're the lowest of the low!"
"It's your own fault for leaving your dirty laundry laying around!" Usui shot back, laughing. "So lame!"
He quickly looked about for more projectiles, but Kido had the advantage of both speed and a more extensive knowledge of his surroundings, and had Usui pinned down a matter of seconds. Pelting him with balled up socks that had been recovered from under the bed, he yelled, "Who's lame now, huh?! WHO'S LAME NOW?!"
"Stop it!" Usui cried, choking on his own laughter. "Stop it, I can't breathe! Come on, I have to go to school!"
Kido quickly abandoned any thoughts of trying to regather his projectiles for a second assault as excessive and redundant. He shifted his weight to make sure he wasn't actually restricting Usui's breathing and inquired innocently, "Made peace with your unwashed uniform, then?"
Usui nodded slowly. "More sanitary than a pile of your socks, if that's what you mean," he agreed solemnly, and after a moment of contemplative silence they both burst out laughing. "Come on, since you're out of bed anyway you may as well walk me to the door."
Kido nodded, standing and pulling Usui to his feet with him. He opened the door and, with a quick nod, motioned for Usui to go first. As Usui passed, he grabbed Kido's wrist and, flashing him an innocent smile, led him out into the hall and down the stairs.
"Ah, so that's where I left that," Usui noted, retrieving his bookbag from by the front door. "Well--"
"Wait," Kido interrupted, eyeing Usui critically. "Before you go, let me fix your tie."
Usui looked down at his tie and then back to Kido quizzically, but did not object until Kido had slackened the tie considerably. "Hey, stop it," he laughed, but Kido batted his hand away when Usui moved to fix it. "Come on, I'm going to be late."
"You've got plenty of time," Kido dismissed with a shrug. "Now, lift your arms." When Usui obeyed with only the slightest hesitation, Kido quickly untucked his shirt in the front.
Usui squawked in surprised, blushing deeply as his arms dropped and pushed Kido's hands away. "Quit it, you're going to make me look like a slob," he protested, and hesitated. "Or you."
"Gee, thanks for that," Kido replied sarcastically. "But I'd rather look like a slob than be as presentable as you are right now. It's sickening!" When Usui started to object, he pouted. "Don't you trust me?"
Usui sighed and rolled his eyes, but he was smiling. "God only knows why," he assented, and raised his arms again.
"So trusting," Kido sighed, his tone not one of condescension or amusement but simply a contented observation as his arms encircled Usui's waist under his blazer, neatly untucking his shirt. Usui shivered as Kido's cool fingertips brushed along the bare skin of his lower back; when one hand crept higher along his spine, eliciting a quiet gasp, Usui leaned in slightly and the first two fingers of one hand caught at one of the inexplicably present belt loops of Kido's pyjama pants. After only a momentary pause, Kido drew back, his hands first dropping to his sides and then joining behind his back. "So you were saying you need to be getting to school?" he remarked, making no attempt to hide the artifice of the innocence in his smile.
Usui mouthed wordlessly for a moment; his lips curved into a frown, then a practiced pout.
Kido laughed, not unkindly. "Don't tell me you don't want to go now!" he exclaimed. "I don't want your mother blaming me for ruining your perfect attendance or corrupting her darling little son or whatever."
Usui's pout only deepened.
Kido frowned and tilted his head, then smiled mischievously. "Are you waiting for a goodbye kiss, then? Should I put on an apron and make you a bento and everything--?"
Usui's lips twitched as if threatening to twist into a mirror smile before he raised his hand quickly to cover his mouth and shook his head rapidly.
Kido's features shifted flawlessly from mild surprised to feigned offence. "Oh, I see how it is--"
"You'd better not," Usui warned, considering before offering a lame cough. "I think I'm getting sick too."
Kido moved smoothly through renewed surprise and amusement before settling on faked concern. "Oh, poor baby!" he cooed, making a show of feeling Usui's forehead. "Well I can't send you to school now -- your mother would kill me!"
"Why are you so fixated on my mother?" Usui rolled his eyes, but sounded genuinely curious.
"The woman scares the hell out of me," Kido replied bluntly. He eyed Usui critically. "Act sicker."
Usui coughed obediently.
Kido gasped dryly and rolled his eyes. "Clearly you are far too sick to be out in public." He took Usui by the hand and turned toward the stairs. "I'm sending you back to bed."
Remembering where the idea had originated from in the first place, Usui asked, "And you?"
Kido paused and glanced back at Usui, eyebrows raising as he smiled his fearless smile. "Back to bed too," he replied simply, turning back, and led Usui back up the stairs.
Happy Valentine's Day, flist. ♥
