So I think I've fallen in love. Again.
I like to search random Japanese acting agency websites (sometimes via dwiki and the likes) because it's a fun way to discover new actors and add some new links to my 'six degrees of dramas' chain*. It's a good way to kill time and allows me to point and flail when I recognize the people I discover in bit parts in whatever movies or dramas I happen to be watching. It's a whole lot of fun.
* i.e. Matsujun was in Hanadan with Oguri Shun who was in HanaKimi with Toma who was in Akihabara@DEEP with... you get the idea.
So I was looking through some websites when I happened to come across the profile page of one
Saotome Taichi. Well, he's absolutely gorgeous, and not in a way that I'm fully used to, either. Rather than exuding a dorky, bubbly personality and sex appeal like the vast majority of idols I'm a fan of, he seems to possess a quiet elegance and beauty instead. When I took a closer look at his profile I realized that, given my track record, it was likely and indeed possible that it had something to do with the fact that he's sixteen, but then I started clicking through the tabs on his site and realized...
he's an onnagata.
I started looking through pictures and watched a few videos (some on YouTube, some on the site -- the 'movie' links at the top of the gallery page I just linked) and realized that everything I had innitially surmized was a complete understatement. There are no words to describe his elegance and grace -- believe me, I've tried to find them. He reminds me of everything that's beautiful in the world. I'm thinking he's already becoming something of a muse to me.
Two further points. Firstly, because I have incredible timing, his
calendar and
DVD are released today. All I want for Christmas, folks. Although if someone wanted to, say, wrap him up in ribbons, drop him on my doorstep, and ring the bell and run away, I wouldn't say no to that...
Secondly, his
Wikipedia article was a little vague on whether he does off-stage roles (I'm not sure exactly how to term what I mean), so I thought I'd punch his name into dwiki and try my luck. He has one role listed, for a jidaigeki tanpatsu that hasn't aired yet.
Shabake, with Tegoshi Yuya and Takaki Yuya. There are no words. See, I have this thing about how I know a fair bit about jidaigeki but am not too keen on them since pretty boys + jidaigeki usually = pretty boys with bad hair. Unfortunate. But ah, Taichi may singlehandedly change my mind on the matter. Granted his character is listed as 'Suzuhiko-hime'...
Unrelated but still a reason to flail, Yukan Club starts airing tonight(ish?). Well, I guess I should stop procrastinating and finally finish my essay... *sigh* At least it's on Yeats; I'm going to ace this thing.
