I am now the proud owner of THREE SCARVES (two of which are very blue and actually don't suck!) and A FUCKING HAT. I MADE A HAT, YOU GUYS. It actually took me three tries to get it right: the first time I messed up horribly because I've never worked from a pattern before, the second time I figured it out but it ended up way too big because I have a tiny little kid head, and the third time I ENDED UP WITH A HAT! =D
Ignore that my hair looks unbrushed and I look like I seriously need sleep because, well, it is and I do. /lazy and unkempt
For absolutely no reason I can come up with, I decided to sit down and watch three Japanese movies in a row. I cried during ALL OF THEM, go me. So who wants to talk about jcinema? Everyone, that's raight~
Bandage: I am finding it hard to locate a starting point, so let's start with how scraggly long hair really doesn't suit Kora Kengo. But hey, have you ever watched a movie on DVD and for some reason found yourself really, really wishing you'd been able to see it in theatre? That is the overwhelming feeling the scene with Yukiya and Asako and Hatachi no Sensou and the swinging light gave me. If you saw Bandage in theatres, I am so jealous of you. You probably shouldn't tell me, it might make me want to punch you.
And I swear to god the crummy apartment Natsu lives in is the building Yagira Yuya kept walking past in Daremo Shiranai. It is! Either it is, or there are two incredibly similar looking buildings with very similar surroundings. I'm doubtful it's a coincidence; I watched Daremo Shiranai very carefully! (I wrote an essay on the cinematography, with a couple pages dedicated to that building and its surroundings. Serious business.)
Gokusen: BAWW YOU GUYS I LOVE GOKUSEN. I LOVE IT FOREVER. The movie was basically just Yankumi beating people up and Kame/Odagiri following her around going, "Why are you like this. Why are you STILL LIKE THIS." (Seriously, she goes, "Fight-o, oh!" and he goes, "...You still do that?") I could watch an entire season of that, not gonna lie. I appreciated them recycling cast members; they brought back BASICALLY EVERYONE - not just the main class dudes, but also characters who never got lines! Ojima Naoya! Sato Tomohiro! Channaka! No Mizushima Hiro or Matsuyama Kenichi*, but I suppose they have better things to be doing these days. (* Matsuyama Kenichi spent the entirity of season 1 looking very confused, like if he was a flavor of Life Savers, he'd be Bewildermint.)
Time it took me to locate Kido Yuya in the first group shot after season 3's class turned up: approximately 0.05 seconds. \o/
Solanin: Sets a new standard for manga-to-film adaptions, imho. Miyazaki Aoi totally shines as Meiko, but there's no denying Kora Kengo owns the hell out of his role and the whole movie. (I think he's been fasttracked onto my list of favourites, ha.) I don't know what to say except this movie is as awesome as the manga it's based on (which I am
on record giving a 10/10) and seriously, you can probably get through both in one afternoon. Come on.
KORA KENGO'S RIDICULOUS KISSYFACE COMPELS YOU~*
...Yep, he's a keeper. ♥
