Couldn't get to sleep last night, so I knew I was bound to feel like six kinds of hell come exam time (11:30) and resolved to combat it the best I could in pretty much the only way I know how. I ripped the Treasure Match CD and put it on my mp3 player (while getting in some last-minute studying, of course), figuring that if anything could lift my spirits and rev me up, it'd be dumb gay tennis songs. Uhhh, except my mp3 player then decided it didn't want to play them, and I ended up having to rip the CD again. Thankfully it worked that time; by the time the songs were done copying over, I had to be out the door.
It really did help, though! It was so nice to go flipping through songs, land on the first track, and be greeted by Kido Yuya yelling, "HAJIMARU DE! HA-JI-MA-RU-DEEEEE!" ("Kido Yuyaaaa. On my mp3 playerrrr. *placid smile*") You know how the last song you hear before you leave the house always embeds itself in your brain? Like that scene in Wayne's World? Well, even though I turned off my mp3 player as soon as the prof and T.A.s entered the room, I spent the next two hours with "KOITSU WO TAOSHITAI~" resonating in my head. It was oddly inspiring, I must say. Like, "Hey, maybe I can actually do this. Having a negative attitude isn't gonna help any. If I do my best, maybe I can lay the smackdown on this exam!" Not that it totally cured my jitters, but it helped.
(One of the T.A.s happened to notice, by the by. Not my T.A., but the sweet, intelligent, friendly young woman I admire but have never actually spoken to. "You look really nervous. You shouldn't be! You'll do great!" askghdg how sweet is that, really.)
Okay, uh, in reality it went down a bit more like the Doubles 2 match, with my exam being MomoKai. It was passage identification, spanning everything we've read this year, stretching back to September, and I swear it was mocking me. "LOL YOU CAN'T TELL US APART. WHICH ONE'S WHICH? YOU CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT~ WE LAUGH AT YOUR MISERY, AAAAAHAHAHAHA." aslkdhglsadkh D=
So I worked through the ones I did know, and when I realized I was running out of time and wouldn't be any worse off if I just started making leaps of faith and educated guesses, I did what any good Shitenhoji kid would - made shit up. Honest to god, I attributed one passage to, and I quote, "P-something (...wow, what)". (Walter Pater, I realized as I was leaving the classroom. *facepalm* Maybe it's good for part marks, who knows.) Overall, though, I think I scrounged together enough valid points for a passing mark! Halfway decent, even!
...And then as soon as I left the building and started my cross-campus walk, it started pouring. Heh, if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all, it seems.
