I have had a great birthday! With all the family that I have and it being during (or on) Thanksgiving, I always have pretty much a birthday week. It started last Sunday at my mom's. We ate at Rib City (yum) and I got my puppy ice cream birthday cake as always (yum again). On Tuesday, Josh, Zac and I went out to Touche for yummy greek style happy hour and pinball mania. And a trip down hookah lane of course. Then on Wednesday, Zac & I went to Rogue for a fancy steak dinner (actually he had gator gumbo) and I got my presents from him. Thursday was my actual birthday, so I saw my aunt and uncle and mom's side before heading over to zac's mom's house and got some presents there and played some fun games.
Friday we got up and headed out to Skamania lodge. I love that drive, it's so pretty. Especially Cape Horn (hee). We had lunch there and walked around, then headed to Walking man brewery for beer! They have such a great collection. We each had two or three pints of their various beers, bought two pint glasses and took a growler of black cherry stout to go. Explored the one street that composes Stevenson, then back to the lodge for their famous friday night harvest buffet. Wow. Best, fanciest 'buffet' I have ever been to, I'm not sure I made it to every table even. Then lots of drunkness and trips outside to smoke. We had a deluxe room with a fireplace, it was so fantastic. And I love when you get a robe. That was a great night!
Then Zac put in the garbage disposal for me! It is so great! I am in love. Spent the evening with tony and taylor etc. Glad to be talking to them again. I really like taylor. And since her bday was a day before mine, we got her a pretty good computer from Zac's work and set her all up on that, even put in a DVD burner for her. She was happy I think. And tonight I am meeting my dad and val at Romo's (on hawthorne) for tasty green burritos and presents!
I asked for mostly books, so here goes a list of those first...
'The Dog Dialed 911' from my mother in law.
This is so great! It's put out by the smoking gun people, who are large supporters of the freedom of information act. It ranges from funny to disturbing in the information it reveals.
'The Ladies of Grace Adieu' from Zac
I am really excited for this because I loved Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell so much.
A People's History of the United States (teaching two vol. edition)
I have been wanting this forever. My mom graciously bought me the deluxe version!
The Three Incestuous Sisters from Zac
This amazingly crafted picture book is a definite must read. The art is fucking incredible, and it's a disturbing book about jealousy and lonliness.
Pawn of Prophecy from zac
My token fantasy novel!
The Ethnic Vegetarian from zac
This one I checked out from the library over the summer, it is so fucking fantastic though, I had to have it.
and zac got me this for our month on the 15th, it's totally amazing;
How to Survive a Robot Uprising
Now for non-book things:
A Dyson 'The Ball' DC15 Animal Ed. from my mom
The coolest vacuum in existence.... period.
A kickass chrome bag from Zac. Mine's a little smaller than this one and grey with black.
And a $50 gift cert. to get another pair of scrubs. Yay! So I obviously racked up very well. And we'll see what books my dad got me, I am not wanting/expecting much from him due to the wedding and that he just bought us a kitchen table for the wedding too..... And I think Zac's dad forgot about my birthday. Which is just fine by me! I already have too much stuff.
Edit:
Back from dinner. Yum. Received:
'I Like You' by Amy Sedaris. This book is fantastic. Filled with crafts, recipes, drugs etc. Every page is a gift. It may be my new favorite thing. (www.amysedarisrocks.com) Truly, the awesomeness of this book cannot be conveyed without experiencing it for yourself. It's new kitsch. Go here and click on the cover to look through some of the pages (
http://www.amazon.com/Like-You-Hospitality-Under-Influence/dp/0446578843 ) Anyone who tells you to sleep with someone chinese or place something small inside your anus during lovemaking clearly knows what they are talking about. Also, she's the sister of David Sedaris, who himself is great as well.
And
'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' which I know nothing about, but wanted, and looks good.
And two candle sticks, christmas socks and $75. Wow. I heart bdays alot.
