Really Butterflies?
Calzone's 2nd meeting
Callie pushed open the doors of Joe's, getting bludgeoned with the uproarious sound of music and laughter and the smell of stale beer and smoke. She scanned the room trying to find someone who she actually enjoys drinking with, in the right corner Meredith, Izzy and Christina, the Left in the dark corner by the dart board Addison, Marc, Derek, and the rest of the California gang, sighing realizing she did not fit into ether group of colleagues she sauntered over to the safety of Joe at the bar.
"Hey, there Dr. Torrez!" Joe exclaimed as he set her usual beer on the counter as she slid onto the stool. "Not joining your friends?" he questioned as she nodded towards Addison's group.
"Nah. They are reconnecting." Callie sighed, taking a swig of her beer. She kept her head downcast memorizing the patterns of the discarded beer-nuts on the countertop. She took another swig of the bottle, right before a hand gently brushed across her shoulder, causing her to inhale her beer a bit to fast.
"Jesus, Fuck. Dammit" Callie sputtered as she held a napkin over her mouth.
"Oh GOD! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I did not mean to startle you. Jesus, let me..." The blond rushed to reached out and grabbed another napkin, and quickly pressing it right above where Callie's red shirt swooped at her cleavage.
Callie froze, her head shooting up, to finally catch a glimpse of who has startled her so, "Ari..Arizona..." Her head looked down at spot that Arizona was holding her hand on. Callies skin becoming blush, right before Arizona quickly snapped her hand away.
"Oh, Crap" Arizona muttered, as she averted her eyes away from Callie, she began to walk away when callie grabbed her wrist.
"No, Arizona: It's ok sit down." Callie smiled, leaving her hand on Arizona's wrist. Arizona smiled, and slid onto the stool beside Callie.
"Do you want a drink?" Callie asked, Arizona nodded "Beer, or something else?" she caught Joe's eye, and she came right over to them.
"Can I have a Vodka and Cranberry, Please?" Arizona asked, and Joe nodded, "And another beer for her." Joe agreed and went to fill the order.
"So.." They both started at the same time, then started to laugh.
"OK, we really suck at this." Callie joked, to a smiling Arizona, Callie was relieved when Joe brought back the drinks because callie was getting engrossed in Arizona's dimples when she smiled. Arizona leaned over the bar to take the drinks, which gave Callie the opportunity to scan over Arizona's attire for the evening. She wore Black jeans that hugged her body in a perfect way, a dark green tank top under a white button up. Arizona, sat back down after grabbing the drinks.
"Callie?" Arizona called, causing Callie to startle back to attention.
"Ya? What? Sorry." Callie stated, taking a long swig of her beer.
"Its ok." Arizona smiled, making sure Callie swallowed her beer before she finished her statement. "Don't be sorry, You can check me out if you want."
Callie's face goes totally blush, as she takes down half of her bottle. "I'm really...Really bad at this." She motions between the two. Arizona, twists her head to the side. "I'm really bad at this whole, Flirting... Flirting with...ya know.. a...a"
"Girl?" Arizona adds.
"Yes..I'm good at other things, I'm good..well I don't know if I'm good..but I think I got better at the whole...sex with a girl thing." callie stopped, when she saw Arizona's eyes widen at her statement. "Fuck" Callie stopped in embarrassment.
Arizona, placed her hand on Callies arm; which Caused callies head to jolt up. "Breath." Callie did as she as told, "Good, now I know you can follow directions." Arizona smiled.
"Can we start over?" Callie asked, noticing Arizona's hand was still on her arm. Callie nodded. Arizona got up, and extended her had to callie. "Arizona Robbins, May I sit here?"
"Callie Torrez, and please." Callie smiled. "Do you come here often?"
"Well, I've been here once before." she smiled, remembering what transpired between the two last time they ran into each-other at Joes. "And I ended up kissing this intensely hot latina in the washroom." She winked.
Callie bit her bottom lip slightly, "Well then, I should watch out. Those latina's have a serious temper, I would not want her to get pissed at me for talking with you."
"I'm sure it's fine." Arizona stated, taking a sip of her drink. "So Callie, how do you like Ortho?" Callie started to laugh, "What"
"Hell of a segway, you made their!" Callie joked. "Actually, I love Ortho. It's very satisfying, and allot less completive then the rest of the specialities."
"Seems that way." Arizona said, as she watch Callie play with her beer bottle. "Ped's is like that too, there are not allot of people in the surgery field for ped's so their is less ego's in play."
"You're amazing in surgery." Callie softly stated.
"You've watched me?" Arizona replied, genuinely surprised. "When, Why?"
"Um...The case you did with Bailey" Callie continued, "Marc, the plastics guy who has most likely hit on you already."
"handsome, but cocky?" Arizona questioned and Callie nodded.
"He told me that there was a new surgeon who was rolling around on like roller-skates."
"Heelies" Arizona interrupted.
"Heelies" Callie corrected her self, "and that she was wicked hot."
"So you came and checked me out, whilst I was in scrubs and elbow deep into some kids insides?" Arizona asked. Callie nodded as she swallowed her beer.
"I almost left." Callie said, noticing Arizona looked a bit dejected. "Not because I did not like like what I saw, but really...Butterflies on your scrub cap...really?"
Arizona started laughing, hard. "You wrote me off for having butterflies on my scrub-cap? Whats wrong with butterflies?"
"Their Perky." Callie replied, "Perky, freaks me out. I'm like the polar opposite of perky."
"Dark and Mysterious?" Arizona flirted, as her hand found its way onto Callies knee. Callie nodded. "Intense and Brooding?"
"Pretty much." Callie smiled.
"Explains the black nail-polish then." Arizona joked, as she took callies hand into her, examining her nails. "I like it. Anyway, If you must know, the Butterflies. I'm Irish." Callie looked at her confused.
"There is an Irish folk lore that Butterflies are symbolic of souls of the dead waiting to pass through purgatory" Arizona took a long drink from her glass. "And being that you are Mexican, I'm guessing but I'm pretty sure, you should know that butterflies are a part of the dia de los muertos myth."
Callie just stared at her.
"No so perky now, huh?" Arizona laughed.
"Um...Ya not so much." Callie smiled and timidly brushed her hand against Arizona's knee. "So, Arizona the morbid Ped's surgery. Do you go around kissing people in washrooms allot? Callie kept her right hand on Arizona's knee, making slow circles with her thumb on the inside of it.
"Um." Arizona began, getting slightly flustered by the gentle affection. "Not people, Women..and no. That's the first time I've ever done that. I'm usually kinda shy when it comes to making the first move." She replied, looking down at Callie's hand.
"Me Either." Callie sighed "Since, the other day you told me that you knew things about me..What did you mean?"
Arizona sighed, and finished her drink. She rested her elbow on the counter and rested the side of her head against it, staring intensely at Callie.
"This hospital gossips way too much." Arizona began, "Some of the nurses were being kinda of Homophobic towards one of my patient's family who were in the ICU. I nicely asked them to remove their head's from their asses." She smiled as Callie chuckled a bit. "Anyway; They walked away, and I overheard them talking about this Doctor who abruptly left. That everyone thought she was a bitch and that she's the only person who ever resisted Marc." Arizona watched Callies face when she began mentioning Erica. "God, I'm sorry. I'm so insensitive."
"No, Are. It's fine. Erica. The disapearning-Bitch-Surgen left because of a fight we had. "Callie sighed, looking down. Arizona, reached up and pushed the hair that had fallen in front of Callies eyes behind her ears.
Callie looked up, her eyes damp with tears. "Maybe we should go and talk somewhere else?" Arizona suggested, not wanting Callie to be uncomfterable, since they were still in a bar with there co-workers. Callie nodded, Arizona got up and reached for her wallet. "Cal. I got it." Callie nodded, and Arizona dropped the note on the countertop to pay. Arizona and Callie shrugged on their jackets and navigated their way out the door. Arizona, pulled her jacket tighter around her body and looked at Callie. "Want to go to my apartment? We'll have to grab a cab"
"I actually live right across the street. How about we just go there?" Arizona nodded, and Callie placed her hand on the small of Arizona's back and led her to the apartment.
Once settled with two warm mugs of tea, they sat in Callies apartment's living room on the couch facing each-other.
"You don't have to talk about her if you don't want, Cal." Arizona stated.
"No, I think I should." Callie sighed, talking a long moment to take in the blond sitting across from her. She defiantly had developed a type, Blond and blue eyed. Arizona looked so full of hope and peace, she looked like a woman with everything figured out. Her eyes had the same sparkle as Erica's did after she told her that Callie was her Glasses. "Erica...Erica was my best-friend...She was like the only person who was not complicated. Addison has too many of her own issues, and Marc, is well Marc. Erica was easy to be with. Until we kissed and fucked everything up."
"Why did kissing her fuck everything up?" Arizona questioned, watching Callie.
"Because, she was the person I talked things out with. I had all these new feelings, and could not tell anyone. So I talked to Marc, who she hated, and then she and I tried dating. We tried...She tried...I was so scared, Are." Callie exclaimed, not feeling odd at all shes pouring her heart out to a woman she hardly knew. She felt Arizona take her hand and gently run her thumb across it in a soothing way. "We ended up being tougher, and she had this whole revelation afterwards. I freaked out and tested my heterosexuality with Marc... I know.. I know horrible idea. Then I told her, but at that point I think she was getting fed up with me. Other series of events happened. and then she left. Of course it was my fault, but she left."
"I did the same thing, cal." Callie looked up, into Arizona crisp blue eyes. "I tested my heterosexuality..allot. Then I realized that it did not matter, weather the person was female or male. Just if I felt something flutter in me when I see them, or if I can't stop thinking about them. That's all that matters." Arizona smiled in that annoyingly hopeful way. Callie smiled and cocked her head to the side.
"Do I make you flutter?" Callie shyly asked. Arizona smiled and kissed her hand.
"Yes."
"Good, because I can't stop thinking about you." Callie admitted. Arizona bit her lip shyly. "Um. Are... I know we're not in a washroom or anything, but can I kiss you?"
Arizona smiled, and nodded. Callie pulled on the hand that was holding on to hers still, pulling Arizona closer to her. Callie reached up and pushed Arizona's silken hair and pulled her closer. Callie gently pecked Arizona lips, pulled back and did it again. Arizona pressed her forehead against Callies. Callie leaned in and pressed her lips against her once again. This time keeping the pressure, noticing Arizona was not advancing the kiss; she pulled back and kissed her again, slowly moving her tongue against her full bottom lip. Arizona sighed a bit, which allowed Callie to slip it in more. Callie moaned when she felt Arizona's arms encircle her neck causing the kiss to deepen. After a few minutes of this, Arizona pulled back catching her breath. Callie looked at her, her lips swollen in that beautifully aroused way.
"What what's wrong?" Callie questioned. Arizona sighed then smiled.
"We're going to go slow, Cal." She kissed the latina's hand. "You just got out of a relationship, and I want out relationship to me more than a rebound fuck."
"Are." Callie wined as Arizona rejected Callie kissing her neck. She sighed and realized the words the blond had just uttered. "Okay." Callie smiled liking the thought of a relationship with the ped's surgeon. "But, Can you stay the night with me?"
"Cal."
"No, we won't do anything. I just want to hold you and sleep." She stated shyly. Arizona kissed her forehead and stood up.
"I hope you don't snore!" she exclaimed, walking into Callies bedroom with her hot on her heels.
