i just read this article about how they successfully cloned some cats, and now they want to start commercially cloning pets for 50 grand. is it just me or is this a fucking ridiculous idea

i'm with you on all of that. the animal is just going to have the same physical charactaristics. plus it all is creepy..and to me seems ethically wrong.
I knew that it would come to this, especially after they cloned Dolly the sheep. Im definitely huge on science, but I think that there are some things that NEED to be left alone... there is so much possibility for something to go wrong. Whats to say they dont start genetically altering the animals, and they go psycho and are uncontrollable?
Here is an idea for the endangered species- STOP KILLING THEM. If we werent hunting and cutting down their habitats, this wouldnt be an issue.

Our cultural vision, which we are taught since birth runs roughly as follows: "The earth was made for man, and man was made to rule it, and this is the one right way to live."
With this in mind it is easy to see how the application of that vision manifests itself: If it is not human life, or for human use (generally food), than it is not allowed to live. We can see this time and time again, as rain forest is clear cut to graze cattle, bald eagles are poisoned into excintion by DDT from crops, and countless other examples. People cluck their tongues and shake their heads, but they still follow the cultural vision that reinforces the idea of seperation of humans from the rest of the community of life, and reinforces our "god-given" dominence over the rest of the community of life.
Its sad but true isn't it? If you got me a book, you bet i'd read it! I'm pretty much leaving around the 10th or 11th of this month, so you should let me know when you might be up this way.
Cloning pets is a horrible idea! There are WAY too many out there without homes to be repeating pets all the time.
I am not so much against the cloning of endangered species to help increase the population. It isn't natural for gorillas to die from ebola (a human disease) because people keep breeding too much and taking over the place gorillas live.
Instead of worrying about buying diesel jeans, I have been making wood paintings and donating the money made from them to the World Wildlife Fund. If you want anything, let me know, custom ones aren't too difficult.
Thats awesome Lena, how much do they usually go for? I'd definitely be interested in gettin one from you. I'm moving in about 10 days or so though. Hmmm maybe if we work something out you could mail it? I duno, get back to me :)
