The DragonBall Z live action movie will be emerging. I'm not really sure what story it's really going to follow, but hopefully they cut out the endless training scenes or it will be the longest movie known to man. Justin Chatwin of the the Chumscrubber and War of the Worlds fame, and a promising actor, has been cast as Goku. I don't see the similarity, but this will be a big year for him, as he is also to play in S. Darko, the follow-up to Donnie Darko, centered around a road trip to LA with Donnie's little sister and the sightings of bizarre imagery. James Marsters, or Spike from Buffy, will appear in the part of Lord Piccolo, a role which Ron Perlman rejected to instead film Hellboy II. I can't wait to see what he looks like in green, and if they will let him keep the fangs in. There isn't too much information yet about the actual movie, for any of the three just mentioned.
Also, Prince of Persia is being made into a film, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The games are great, a type of fantasy I actually enjoy, though yet again, it's transcending into a movie is an iffy concept. Earlier this week some casting was announced. Jake Gyllenhaal somehow weaseled his way into the part of Dastan. Although I think he's a good actor, I simply do not understand how he beat out an actual Persian, rumored as being a prince, for the role during the final decision. I know, I know...he's a big Hollywood name and will attract teenage girls everywhere to see the film, hence generating tons of money back to Disney. Yeah, it's going to be a Disney film. The production will be from Jerry Bruckheimer, which is a plus. However, Mike Newell is the director, and I've never been a fan of movies in the cornball genre of Mona Lisa Smile.
