Chapter Nine

Hermione and Ron didn’t say a word as they watched Harry just stare at Draco.

“Why would you ask that? You do your spell every time we have sex,” Harry told him.

“Yes, the same spell that I’m sure you could find a potion or spell to counteract. You just admitted that you have to get up at night to pee a lot. You emotions are out of whack. You got angry just because I wanted to leave to get lunch. You cried when we had sex. Your nipples are sore. Your stomach is a little rounded. You are tired all the time. You aren’t eating everything you used to. Plus, I’ve never believed the whole crying breaking the blood vessels thing. That’s been a lie the whole time. I bet you get up in the morning because you’re sick. You’re sick and you’re vomiting and that’s what’s causing the broken blood vessels. Those are all normal signs of early pregnancy, Harry.”

Harry continued to sit there quietly.

“Well? Are you? Did you do something to counteract my spell so you would intentionally get pregnant?”

Harry shook his head.

“No to which? Both I hope.”

“No, I didn’t do anything to counteract your spell, I swear.”

“Are you pregnant?”

Harry sighed, “I think I am.”

“You think?”

“I took a muggle pregnancy test that I stole from Hermione and it was positive, but I haven’t gone to see Poppy.”

“Were you just not going to tell me?”

“Not until I had found out for sure. I didn’t want to worry you.”

“Well, it’s too late for that now. We are going to Poppy now. I don’t care if you really want to go now or not. We need to know for sure. I need to know for sure.”

Ron and Hermione continued to sit there, almost in shock.

“Draco’s right. You need to go to Poppy and see what she says,” Hermione said.

Harry nodded.

Together, they walked directly to the Hospital Wing to see Poppy. Upon arrival, Harry and Draco explained what was going on. Draco sat in a chair and Poppy had Harry lie on the bed. Draco went into detail about everything he had noticed and Harry finally admitted to everything that had been going on that he had hidden from Draco. Never once did Harry say he had used any kind of potion or spell to counteract Draco’s. Therefore, Draco figured Harry was either lying about it, or somehow wasn’t pregnant.

By the time Poppy was done with all of her tests, Draco was incredibly anxious to find out what she had to say about Harry. She allowed Harry to get himself completely dressed and then invited the two boys into her private office to speak with them.

“Mr. Potter, would you say you’re still quite torn up about the miscarriage?”

Harry nodded, “Yes, ma’am.”

“Is it safe to say you’ve been wanting to get pregnant again?”

Harry nodded once more, “Yes, ma’am.”

“You’ve had a very strong desire to be pregnant, correct?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Draco just sat, listening. He knew Harry had still been wanting children, but thought they had come to the understanding that now wasn’t a very good time for that.

“You’ve been keeping this from Mr. Malfoy haven’t you?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Poppy sighed and nodded, “Well, Mr. Potter, I’m not sure if this is good news or bad news, but you in fact are not pregnant.”

Both boys were obviously confused, though it was also obvious which was happier about this and which was more heartbroken.

“You’ve been experiencing some of the symptoms, yes. You’ve even put on a bit of weight, too. You will probably continue to experience this as time goes on.”

Neither boy understood. “Why?” Harry asked.

“You’re experiencing what is known as a ‘hysterical pregnancy.’ Basically, your want to be pregnant is so great, you have actually convinced your body that you actually are pregnant. There’s no real way to stop this, even through magic, except by either lowering your want to get pregnant, or actually getting pregnant. Of course, I am not advising you to try to get pregnant. I’m more so advising you to get to the bottom of the problem and figure out why you still so badly want to get pregnant now, when you’re only 17.”

The boys nodded, slightly understanding. They left together and went back to the room of requirement. Although it had been a couple of hours, they assumed Hermione and Ron would still be there. Upon entering the room, both Hermione and Ron stood up and looked at Harry with questioning eyes.

“I’m not pregnant,” Harry told them, obviously heartbroken.

“I’m sorry, Harry,” Hermione said.

“Yeah, sorry, mate. It’s probably for the best though.”

Harry let the tears start to fall. Draco wiped away his tears and held him. The other two took that as their cue to leave the room so the two boys could talk.

“Harry, don’t cry.”

He shook his head, “I can’t help it. Both am I sad but my emotions are also all screwed up.”

“I know. I hate seeing you like this.” Draco let go of Harry and went to the couch in the room to sit. He patted the spot next to him, “come sit with me.”
