So there's now roughly 6 weeks, 2 days left of school. I have so many days off in the next month, it's absolutely ridiculous. I have Retention Meetings, Workshops, Seminars, Award Ceremonies, Field Trips, and Data Analysis Meetings to attend. I swear, no where in my college curriculum did I EVER take a class that told me how much paperwork I would actually be doing as a teacher. I think 40% of my before and after school "planning" time is devoted to paperwork that has nothing to do with actual lesson plans. However, I will still stand by the fact that I have the best job in the world. My kids are awesome, my coworkers are great, and I actually have FUN when I go to work.
My Principal wants to rehire me for next year. She wants to put me back in 5th grade, even though I requested 2nd, because she says it's really hard to find effective 5th grade teachers. No one really wants to teach that grade/age level. I think this age group rocks. They have a sense of humor that I can relate to, and they understand sarcasm, which I use constantly. Besides, I'm so used to the older kids, that if I went to 2nd grade, my manner and discipline style would probably make them cry....My kids tell me that I should stay in 5th grade because I'm a cool 5th grade teacher, although, they still say I'd be a lot cooler if I'd stop buying my clothes from the "geek store". hahaha. Damn kids. Those 11 year olds have no sense of style.
