Happy Cinco De Mayo to meee!!!!

May 06, 2009 18:01

Ok. So for Cinco De Mayo, South Fin had planned an all day event/party. Now for this, they scheduled 6 bartenders, 2 back up training bartenders, a half a bartender(/barback/runner) plus the wait staff which was maybe 8 or 9 people.

I get there an hour late to find out we're pretty much over staffed as expected and on top of that, the day was shitty. Nothing but cold, wet, nasty, unwanted weather. Anyway, we decide to stay positive and hope people show up. We get split up 3 and 3. The 2 trainees got sent home so hopefully we'll make more money.

The doors are opened at 3pm. At around 5/6pm, Josh, Jarrod and I are basically stuck jerking off to each other because NO ONE IS IN OUR ROOM!!! On top of that I hear that instead of pooling house, it's each room for themselves. Immediately I get mad and confront the managers about it. Problem solved. After a bit, some people start strolling in. YES!! KTU was Dj-ing so atleast we had some decent music. Before we know it, the room starts getting full. At this time I'm working the crowd, dancing up a storm, all while making drinks and serving beers. I was glad to see some of my invited customers as well as familiar faces. Why? Better tips.

At one point, everyone just kinda left me which was fine because I was killing it. People liked me, they really liked me. =D

Everything seemed to be turning out pretty well. Until...

A fight broke out. It had to be Staten Islanders. Why can't people have fun, drink, and NOT fight?? At least it was somewhat entertaining. That wasn't it thou. After cleaning up and sorting everything else out, we ended up making about $1,032.00. Now, remember I said we were pooling house? And, remember how many people were working???

Here's the breakdown.

Waitstaff - 30% of the pot.
Barstaff - 70% of the pot.
70% divided by 6 bartenders and and barback/runner = not enough money for what we worked.

I'll admit I was pretty pissed as were the other bartenders. But unfortunately, in this business, it is what it is. Nothing we can really do about it. The waitstaff was definitly
shafted more then us.

Lucky for me, I made out with freebies. Aside from the regular T-shirts, bottle openers, inflate-ables, bracelets and aprons( which were for us as well as cutomers/guests); I was able to go home with hats, a nice Corona Sombrero, and a sick Corona mirror that a few people had an eye on. Too bad for them that mirror is hanging in my room now. At the time thou...

...I needed a get-away ride.

So....

I asked Jarrod.

I'm not really sure if I want to fully trust Annie, but she better not screw me over in the end. I really was not in a mood to hear bitching either so that was also why I asked him. I was a bit surprised he didn't mind either. I was also kinda nervous because;

a) he's pretty atractive and has the nicest ocean blue eye with cute smile combination that makes me melt.

b) we barely every talk so now we have a long ride with possible awkwardness.

and

c) he doesn't know I'm gay nor does he know I think he's cute and I don't know him that well to know if he's openminded like that.

So....

I need a get-away ride and he was it.
We get punched out. As I exit the building, he runs to his car and I run around the place to pick up my stash of goodies because at this point it is POURING rain. Half way to my house, while we're actually talking the most we ever did, he mentions he is kinda in the mood to smoke when he gets home. I hear smoke and I'm sold. I tell him I have some at my house if he wants to smoke up in his car. We get to my block and I run in, clean my bowl, spark up a clip and make my way back to his car. I did not expect at all to end up chilling with let alone smoke with him. It was an interesting and enjoyable experience. Made me prettu glad I asked him for a ride.

Happy Cinco de Mayo to me!!! =)
