The streets of New York weren’t all that different than those of Philadelphia, but at the same time, it drove Corey insane that he felt lost while walking them. Topanga herself, who showed little fear when they moved, took a while to get use to the city. And if his wife can find her way here, than he can too.
His backpack strap slipped off his shoulder as he entered the white-bricked building of NYU and he quickly righted himself as he followed the masses down the hall to his Western History class. Sitting down, he had a brief image of Mr. Feeny at the blackboard, rolling his eyes at some stupid joke him and Shawn made.
Then he thought of Shawn, who was in Greenwich Village, setting up a photography shoot and assisting his boss with camera work. Corey was ecstatic when Topanga all but threw the packed bag at his best friend, but now he hardly sees them. With class schedules, work, and spending time with Topanga, Corey barely had time to do anything else.
But he knew if he ever needed Shawn, or if he ever needed Corey, that they would be there for each other. Like always. Like brothers.
Eric was around too, having graduated college. He worked at the Social Security Office, bumbling up orders and always giving his co-workers a headache. He seemed to fit in perfectly there, because everything was a mess. But every Saturday night, when he came over to the apartment and Topanga cooked dinner, he had a smile on his face and a joke to share.
Sometimes his mother and father, along with the two little brats, would join them for dinner too. Even on occasion, The Feeny’s would stop by. Even though they might not see much of each other anymore, they were still there.
And they always would be.
Corey shared a smile to himself as he opened his book and listened to the lecturer droll on. Some things never change. Some things changed just enough.
